Hello fellow Jedi! I am working on putting together the most accurate Anakin AOTC costume. I have the leather and hardware taken care of but am without fabric. I am in search of the every fabric on the costume. Inner Tunic, Outer Tunic and Cloak. I don't want to settle but on most I may have to. I have an entire album here: www.petridish.net/albumview.asp?a=12352Be sure to click on bothe the thumbnail and medium picture to get fiull resolution. First up is the Cloak: www.petridish.net/pics/12352/C2Bottom.jpg For higer res. As you can see there is a sort of weave or "brick-layer" look on it. It is a thick.heavy material as stated in sources and easily seen on the pictures I have, please look on teh album link to see. I am not sure on exact colour But I know anything can be dyed. What I am looking for is something very similiar, you can see teh weave is rather large, most what I have been seing is smaller. The closest match, but on the small side, in look has been the Neo Reloaded coat. For the tunics I am going with this colour look, which is assured to me to be closest to actual. The Outer tunic has been suggested a Heavy Weight linen, any other thoughts are awesome. The Inner tunic has been suggest Onasburg or Silk Gauze. From the same pictures what are your thoughts. Again please look at the full album to see all the pictures, and please...HELP! -Justin

It looks as though the cloak might be the waffle weave insulated super heavy cotton knit that was used for the emporer's robe, it surprised me when I saw it up close, but this looks almost the same, except it's brown, not black. Outer tunic looks like a silk noile, heavy, it's a linen weave, but drapes better than linen, it could be wool, but looks more like the silk. Under, is either a silk, wool or cotton very loosly woven gauze, almost taupe in colour.

That's what I was thinking when i saw the fabric shots too Nova. I'd personally go for the natural lighter weight fabrics that'll breathe.
I'd not wear a woolen under tunic. YOUTCH!

I am so unfamilar with TYPES of fabrics, so I was just going by what has been suggested by others. I really could care less about how hot this costume will be be, I want super accurate I also have very little in the way of fabric stores up here, and those that work in them are clueless Have you seen the fabric you are suggesting Nova, the Silk linen weave? Or know where to get a swatch? Actually swatches of the inner tunic and cloak fabrics are good too. I have done loads of looking here but keep having no luck. I need help on this, from you masters Thanks for all teh input so far though!

pm responded to.... Honestly....I have searched far and wide for various fabrics.. ...you would think a big city like Chicago would have great fabric...well...it doesn't..we even have a place called Fabric Discount Warehouse...which takes up almost an entire city block...is three stories....and I have really never found anything there...I always bring along my Visual Dictionary....some photos...and am usually searching for fabric for many costumes...I have ALWAYS come home empty handed.... the only thing I did find there was fabric for my Imperial Officer costume because all that is is a standard black polyester fabric..... When ever I go to Joannes, WalMart, Hanc*ck, or Fabric Wharehouse I always bring my photos and book and more or less look for anything.... I have purchased on-line on several occasions...but I can tell you that on-line purchases are pretty much a cr*p shoot.....you can't REALLY see the weave of the fabric, and the color doesn't always render true.... All I can tell you is find what you can, as close as possible, and make yourself something respectable....and always keep your eye peeled so you can up-grade. I was talking recently to two of the girls from the RL that do A LOT of sewing...and know a LOT of fabric stores..and they expressed the same concerns...some of their best sources of Jedi fabric are "drying up"... They did mention a super place outside/near/in the Mall of America...the go there as many times a year as they can afford (they live in Madison)... best of luck........ Jedi patience......but you may NEVER find what you are looking for.

PM replied to! Thanks for the replies! I do hope to find something very close, I don't want to go halfway....like I have seen anakin costumes that are too shiny or flat in texture, and I dislike that. I really want something very close, for all three. I may not find exact, but I want the next best thing. So I hope all you can help me, along with me helping me too Being in Canada doesn't help at all really

Yeah, Schph. Actually, I decided to order some of the natural fabric, which is only $3.50/yd. Will use it to make either a new Jedi or one for someone else.
and Primrodo, few of us live near good fabric shopping. These days, it's just the chain stores. Even here in Seattle the only thing really different we have is a local mini-chain, called Pacific Fabrics. But they're the place my Jedi friend paid $10/yd for the silk.
Even when I lived just south of LA, the garment district was such a hassle I only went once a year. And I never found really good deals on the very plain fabric for which I was searching. At that time I was doing very early period medieval garb....solid, bright colored linen and silk. So even when I lived there, I shopped on line!

I ordered some too.....
I was working on my Princess Leia ANH yesterday...the pattern is an older Butterick which also includes a "Luke Skywalker" ...which is a Jedi tunic pattern that looks promising...I have never done that pattern...
