....didn't know that Wal-Mart had a Jedi Training thingy...rats....another opportunity missed...I really hate shopping and never get to the stores much....I guess I gotta get out more....
That must have been a lot of fun....and think of all those young minds you may have already influenced...I am sure they asked their moms for a costume like yours!

Jen, I think that you shuld be able to do what you're thinking of doing with your khaki's, I have done similar things with pants and shirt sleeves, just make sure you go long enuff on the leg to make sure that it's down in the boot at the seam line, it's more comfy than a wad of fabric stuffed inside your boot and usually doesn't ride up either, just remember to strech the strech fabric at the seam so you can get them on and off. Your Jedi garb looks really good in the Walmart pic.

Yay, someone else that knows about the Wal-Mart promo! Would you guys believe that I actually have all the parts to that promo Jedi Training Academy thing?! LOL! I can't even stand in it!!! I'll have to set up part of it or something and take a picture of me in costume standing by it (or squating in it). ;D
Okay, spill............. What's the Walmart Jedi Academy Training thingy? ;D

Walmart had a big display/event the Saturday after Ep II came out. The display had pictures of practice droids. You held a little lightsaber and waved it in front of the droids when their sensor light lit up. It was a little confusing. You couldn't really tell if you deflected the shot or not. I didn't spend to much time trying the game. I wanted to take pics instead. Sionna how did you wind up with one? The Wal-mart here said they would be sending it back later. Although I bet the lady kept it for her son. Another part of the event was to see how many Lego clone troopers you could assemble in a certain amount of time. you got to keep all of them that you assembled. There was also someone giving out samples of chips. I happend to know the guy who was doing it. He got a really cool Star Wars shirt free. I am still trying to talk him out of it. I may get it soon. I have a lot of pictures of me at the event here: groups.msn.com/LongviewSW/linein2002.msnw?Page=11 they begin at the bottom of the page and continue on the next. I had to duck real low to get in, but it was quite an advantage that I am only 5'1. My friend Daniel had a hard time. I let both my friends with me pose wearing my cover-up. I also got to pose for a picture with the Fire Marshall who was outside for fire saftey week. He even held a lightsaber for the picture. That was quite a fun week!

He got a really cool Star Wars shirt free. I had to duck real low to get in, but it was quite an advantage that I am only 5'1. Aw, there was no LEGO stormtrooper thingy at my Wal-Mart!! Oh, but there were chip samples. ;D Heh, *AND* I got a free SW Ep 2 shirt (might have been the one the guy was wearing, cuz the guy doing the chips here didn't wanna wear the shirt and neither did the Wal-Mart associate...LOL).
Basically, I got to keep it cuz I went to Wal-Mart to see what it was they were doing. Well, you know the times this thing was supposed to take place? (10-12, I think..) Well, they couldn't get the thing set up, so I helped put it together (except Frito-Lay forgot to send the parts the kept it standing...the shelves for the chips...yeah, so the Wal-Mart associate guy had to get some wood to hold the sides up so we wouldn't have to stand there holding it up ). We got it set up at like 10:30. Not that it mattered, there's more senior citizens that go there than young kids, so not many kids played with it..plus some parents were like "No, I don't want my kid getting into SW" as if it were a bad thing.
Anyways, since I helped out and everything, I got a free shirt, $15 gift certificate to Wal-Mart, and the associate talked to the manager to see what they were doing with the Academy set up stuff....the manager said I could have if I wanted it so I took it all home! (Dismantled, of course. I have that nice "poster" of Anakin that was on the back of the thing standing up next to my sliding mirror doors by my bed...guess what I see before I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning. Hehe..) It was really cool!
Oh, I know what you mean about not being able to tell if you actually "deflected" the light or whatever, I had a real hard time with it. Watching the little kids play with it was fun, though. One of them wanted to use my lightsaber (I had the Ep 1 Obi-Wan Kenobi "light up only" saber hanging from my belt.), I had to hide it after that. LOL.
You had to duck low and you call that an advantage? I'm 5'1.5"-5'2" and I had a hard time trying to "stand comfortably"!!!! Well, as I said, I'll have to try taking pictures with the thing set up...though I dunno where I'll set it up at... *looks around small house..* Hm... *shrug*

Well I went on a scavenger hunt through my mom's closet full of material and found a sage green corduroy. I was successfull in talking my mom into sewing it into a set of tabbards and an Obi to add as a variation to my costume. It took all of Sat. and half of Sun. to talk her into it. It took her 10 mins to sew it. I took a few pics today in my room, but since I found a tripod I am going to take some tomorrow in the woods across from my house. I think it looks good. The tabbards came out a little wide though. I had also found some good brown that I am going to do the same thing with, so we now know how wide to go. I am having the tabbards attach to the obi with buttons that will be hidden by the overlap of the obi. This way I will be able to interchange them later. Here is were my pics are at groups.msn.com/LongviewSW/costumes.msnw?Page=Last Oh and there is a cool pic of me holding my new lightsaber in my sister's room. She had three blacklights on and they made my saber glow. It was very cool.

My latest one is almost the reverse of that colourwise, it's a greenish khaki with cream tabbards, obi and pants. Those were some fun pix. I'm waiting on my new boots to get my boss to digi photo the whole thing and then I can send it to Tanthos. I'm not literate enuff to post these things myself. I'll have to get him to do a pic of my Ewok to send over to the legion, but I better do that before it gets warm again, it's extremly hot to wear, so I've only worn it a couple of times for competions at cons(mannnyyy yearrrsss agoooo!) I won at a Creation con, back when they were almost the only thing going.

The tabbards maybe a little wide...but not too bad...
As always...love to see photos....it puts a "face" on things....I would still like to put up my own web site...i have been batting that around for almost a year now...and still have not done it. I know that you have to have some site somewhere in order to post photos to.

Buttons to secure the tabbords? GOod idea. I'll try that. :- Are the buttons on the Obi, adn the button holes on the tabbords? (Revers side of the Obi of course )

The buttons are going on the tabbards. They overlap a little in the middle to create the V at the back so that is were the button will go with the button holes on the Obi. We made the Obi so it would overlap enough to cover up were the buttons will show on the first layer. Right now it is still safety pinned together. My mom hates doing button holes and I am not about to try it and ruin it. We don't have anymore of this material. By the way I took a lot of pics a few hours ago in the woods across from my house. They look great and I am posting them to my site right now. Here is the link again groups.msn.com/LongviewSW/costumes.msnw?Page=Last

[shadow=red,left,300]I've got a few ideas for my costume and I think it'll look good once it gets done. But the more I picture it the more it looks like a Jedi outfit. The boots are brown elk hide (bantha hide) with loose fitting pants tucked into it. A sleeveless undertunic with basically a renassiance shirt over that. I don't wear a tabard (personal experience I find that it gets in my way in a fight). The belt is a normal belt with a saber clip attached. My formal robes will be green with no hood. My informal is basically a poncho style thing. It'll look cool but maybe not entirely perfect Jedi. I am New Jedi Order so I don't wear the stuff that the Old Jedi did just because most of those designs are basically not known. I think it'll look cool. What do you guys think?[/shadow]

I think it will be most sutiable. Sounds very NJO and good. I think I like it. Anyone have any suggestion for a pattern for the Green tunic Mara wears.
Ok OK anyway TNJO stuff ooks like it can vary alot. I could almost get away with my paintball pants and body armour actually and a leather shirt or something. Hummm might be fun!! Gotta have a Sabber though Jen even if you dont use it. Its what links you to the Jedi relm.
