Hi! I'm doing a FanFilm and one of my Jedi ended up being my dad. He needs a tunic and some tabards, so I'm making them for him. I have encountered a snag. I have no pattern and am, at the moment, flat broke, so I can't buy one. How would I go about making a pattern for him? (all his t-shirts are stretchy, so I can't use those for reference) It shouldn't be that hard (Jedi tunics are mostly straight lines), but it's driving me batty. Help!

Ani-Chay has a tutorial on the main page for an A-line tunic that includes figures (drawings) of the shapes of the pattern pieces. Try that!

Yeah, I saw that, but for dad a straight line tunic would probably work better.

Actually, an A-line would probably be OK for your father, depending on what he's shaped like. The movie tunics on they men appear to be more like two piece tunics with the bottom part being more like a circle skirt. I assume that the tunic swings more and looks better in action scenes that way.
For physically making a pattern, I just use newspapers and making tape to make the pattern itself to lay on the fabric and cut.
Does your father have a jacket? You could at least use that to get his shoulder measurements from. Men's figures are best defined from the shoulders down, so you want to make sure the shoulders are broad enough.

Well I managed to cut out a cuple pattern peices from old newspaper for his tunic. I think I'll just barely have enough to make it.

We'll like to see a picture when you finish. You can do it. We have great confidence in your abilities.

LOL- a Jedi pal ended up giving my dad tunic, tabards, and Obi and we improvised the rest for the shoot. The boots and 'inner tunic' make me cringe, but it's a start.
Pics up...someday.

That's dad's costume so far. He'll need a new outer tunic, an inner tunic, a belt, and different boots...but it's a start. The trouble with the outer tunic is it was sewn for someone shorter. But it worked for the film shoot. LOL he was more than eager to pretend to fall down and 'die' for several takes.

Looks good! For the under tunic, use a regular tan Henley type shirt (10-button) or a regular V-neck tee rather than a polo

LOL it wasn't a polo, it was his pirate shirt.
