My sleeves end up being finished 12 inches wide, but I work with a tiny bit less of a seam allowance... about 3/4 inch each side. They don't flare at all... they're like tubes. So the sleeve opening at the shoulder is that wide also. But when you do the shoulder tuck, lots of that is pulled up, so you really do need a generous armhole like that. The shoulder tuck on Obi-Wan's costume looks to be about 2 or 2 1/2 inches. I like to tuck mine all the way to the neck trim... like the shoulder get doubled. I find that if gives me a "padded" look... but without the padding. It also prevents the shoulders from flopping over, I think.

Thanks ya'll... I actually sewed in the shoulder tucks last night and it was "better", but now the fabric sort of "bunches up" in the armpit... sigh... Leda, my tucks are about 3" -- I actually modified the "bodice" (used the tunic pattern above the waist and will add a separate "skirt") and sleeves (which I widened) from the Simplicity 5840 b/c I liked the rounded-at-the-top sleeve attachment as opposed to the flat kimono-like attachment of the 4450. I thought there would be LESS bunching under the arm when adding the tuck but it looks like I was wrong. I really still like the pattern but I may have to alter the garment at that sleeve attachment. The sleeves are pretty much like tubes going away from the shoulder caps but pulling them up into the shoulder tuck does make them appear to "flare" at the bottom. Bottom line, it sounds like either 10" or 12" would be fine -- I know ya'll do lightsaber so it doesn't sound like wide sleeves are a hindrance. They are having a mini-SW event at my local Borders on the 26th and two of the salespeople have asked me to come in costume, so I may do a "trial run" before AdventureCon. Wearing the costume for an hour and fixing stuff that doesn't work will be easier than wearing it all day Saturday for the first time. As always, thanks so much for the help!

My tunic bunches up under the arm also, but it doesn't seem to affect the overall lokk of the costume. Actually, it might make it easier to move around in.

If the tunic bunches up under the armpit then try moving the tuck down a little further down on the shoulder and/or making them smaller. That should fix it.

Thank you, thank you! Made some adjustments based on both of your suggestions, and now it bunches but not so much (still leaving room to swing a saber And finally the sleeve looks about right about the right scale and length -- it looks a lot like Bultar Swan's in the AOTC Visual Dictionary -- similar khaki color too. Hmmmmmmm, now I'm thinking about how leather tabards might look, but that's another thread.
