While cleaning out a friend's garage, they found some tan/khaki colored wool. I'd washed it, it survived and looks great.
It's a smilar color to Mace Windu's tunic only the fabric is differant.
Would this wool make a good over tunic fabric? Of course I'll have to fully line it or I'd appear as if I had fleas.(Be scratching a lot)
Or maybe go for a sleeveless over robe or cloak

Wool should make a very nice outer tunic, unless it's to heavy a weight to hang right or the weight makes it look to bulky/bunchy, it should do well if you tailor it a little, if it's for you, you're kinda petite, otherwise it might be a little overwhelming. As for lining, I'd use a lt. wt. cotton lining (it's called cotton lining), most synth's & silk will cause a REAL STATIC PROBLEM, ZAP! Or you could get a can of Static Gaurd ;D! I've been thinking about a Lt. Wt. wool tunic for awhile, for wearing here in certain seasons it would be very practical. How many yards of fabric is it?

Humm I haven't been able tomeasure it accuratly. It's several yards at least. I may be able to do BOTH garments.
I haven't the money to buy cotton lining, I may have to use what I have on hand.

Another question: How do I make this look and fit a femine form better? I do know the bottom has to be a little widder to deal with hips. but what about the uper body so it's not so bulky?

Start by doing it w/ a waist seam, and darts, and a skirt that is wider as it goes down from the waist, like a wrap around Al-ine skirt.

Thanks again Nova,
It seems I was bigger in the hips then I thought, it should be easy for me to adjust for that though. Sewing the neck band is pretty easy for me. I thought it was wilkd that my self taught method matched the two methods you sent to me. I think I'll try for the wool a little later. It'll be made froma cotton as a test tunic. then 2nd version from crinkle cotton. Now with the crinkled cotton, would I need two layers of fabric for the tunic body? (Obi's looked a bit poofy in Attackof the Clones.

I have some crinkle cotton I'm using for a tunic and I just bought some silk to line it with... it's slippery so it does'nt cling to the inner tunic. I don't remember what kind of silk I bought... it was 7.99 per yard. Nova, do you know what it was called? Oh, and yeah, a sleevless robe... feminine cut, would look great with the wool!

It's called "China Silk" very thin, is for lining mostly. Mynn, it depends on how sheer your crinkle cotton is. Gauze is a little to sheer for a tunic top, we Jedi are modest, aren't we?

It's kinda' sheer with one layer. Two it's fine, and if it's dyed no problwm. My under tunics are a heavier fabric so noone's gonna see anything.:-) China silk huh? Cool. Were idja find it Leda? I did have a creamy embossed satin I was going to line the crinkle over tunic's sleeves with, not enough to do the body unfortunatly. So the china silk would fill the body. The wool, I think I'll have to wait on it til I can get some china silk to line it or I'll be scratching like I've fleas if the wool touches my skin. A wool over robe may not matter cuz it won't be on bear skin. UNLESS I can find a swatch of Woll Melton.

Most fabric stores carry china silk, most also carry the snth version in polyester, they do a pretty good fake, but it's definitly warmer, doesn't breathe very well. about $7-8 a yard is about right as a rule. There is also a very lt weight lining cotton that I like w/ wool, as it doesn't build static at the same rate that the silk/wool combo does, also less money about $2-3 a yard.

I'll sue the Chinasilk in both the cotton tunic and wool one. Static doesn't bother me. I can always say it's the force.:-D JK

Ok My muslin/cotton tunci si done. it turned out nice. It has some 'bugs' here and there that eed to betweeked. But It loosk good.
I didn't need to use the skirt portion of the pattern since the tunic's bottom was full enough that When I applied the darts, front and back, it skirtted itself nicely. The bottom flares as if it were a skirt. Although it's hard to tell without a full length mirror.

The pattern that I sent will look good w/ any fabric, but the weight of the wool will really work best w/ that type of pattern on you, it will reduce the bulk that would overwelm you.
