Look for this thread to be moving into the Cantina soon.... since this forum is visible only to full members, only people who already have an approved Jedi costume can see these photos... As per Kryy's suggestion......we should be moving this out into the Cantina so that people who are still working on... or contemplating making their costume might get inspired to finish their project. Also....I always post events to try to give others some ideas of possible opportunities to costume in their area..... hopefully.... moving the Mission Photos thread to where all can see it will let them know that there is "stuff" to do.... and they need to finish their costume... go out... have fun... and perhaps...give a little something back to charity... We ask that you will post responsibly once it gets out to the Cantina....make sure your photos are "family friendly"... but.. honestly...I don't see a problem... everyone has been great in posting photos here in the members area... but... once in the Cantina...anyone can post a photo....so we will have to watch to make sure nothing inappropriate gets posted...

While this was primarily Rebel Legion and 501st (Alpha Base and Garrison Titan), there were 3 TJA members present. We were asked to add excitement to a little boy's birthday party. He turned 5 and is a big Star Wars fan. His father is a major business player locally and philanthropist (No, it's not Bill Gates). The event was held at the Museum of Flight to which the parents are significant donors. In return for our presence, a donation was made to one of our local charities. Since LFL said "no" to providing the Jedi Academy training, others were hired to do it. This was a specific request of the parents which we had to decline. Once the birthday boy had his Jedi training and was given his certificate of advancement to Jedi Knight, that was our cue to march in. We lined up around the stage while the cake was brought in and "Happy Birthday" was sung. Then we mingled and posed for photos. Once the party dispersed, we had some of our own fun taking photos around the museum. public.fotki.com/Kait/star_wars/party/

We encounter true courage in life as we wind our way through it. Never more courage was ever exhibited than by one Isaac Wright who battled leukemia for 6 years. He was diagnosed at age 5 and passed away the first week of December at age 11. Cheryl, Bob Walton and I had the honor of meeting Isaac in June of 2005 and I have thought of him many times in the years that followed, wondering how he was doing. I got the kick in the stomach when I was contacted through Chicago Force about doing this event. Fundraisers were being held as Isaac's parents' health insurance ran out and Isaac was needing a second bone marrow transplant. Sadly, poor Isaac's body simply could not take anymore and Isaac was sent home right before Thanksgiving to be with his family and friends for his last days. After Isaac's passing, the focus of the event was still fundraising for Isaac's family but took on the additional focus of honoring his memory. One of Isaac's favorite things was Star Wars. Thanks go to Mike Plesha (SL 356) for donating a huge amount of toys for the raffle/auction. Some of the toys Mike donated were separated into small bags as raffle prizes and two huge collections went into the silent auction. Thanks also go to Jedi Assembly member Wendy Wright and Gary Fast of Mancari Chrysler Jeep for donating the robe (Wendy) and custom lightsaber (Gary) to the Child's Jedi costume that I sewed. The Jedi costume also went into the silent auction. Most of all, my eternal thanks to our troops. So very many people came by to thank us for being there. Rob O'Dell (Isaac's neighbor and CPA who is handling all of the finances of the fundraisers) thanks us profusely and said that our presence was the delight of everyone, especially all of the children that were there who knew Isaac. I got a chance to also speak with Isaac's brother who went through Isaac's hell with him. Our members posed for photos with a professional photograher as people got to choose what character/characters they wanted in their photos. Members Ed and Cherri Kryzowski also put together a bowling team and I am sorry that I missed Ed and Joseph Flores bowling in their complete gear (I am hoping there will be some photos). Our members also trooped through the entire complex sparking such comments as "pinch me-I think I am dreaming-there is a Stormtrooper here". I also ran some Target Shoot for the kids in the Party room until things got a bit too crowded. Participants:TI1296 - Joseph Flores Alex Flores TD1590 - Jason Sands SL1781 - Rich Markle TB3127 - Cheryl Whitaker - TJA member Whinter Fenlynn TX3697 - Pat Higgins TI4026 - Cherri Kryzowski DZ4438 - Ed Kryzsowki TK6442 - John Fitzsimmons TK7230 - Rob Miller Imperial Recruit "River" Jedi Scum - TK1951 Phyllis Schulte - TJA member Schph Gochi Thank you all for a job VERY well done! This past Saturday members of the Midwest Garrison, Midwest Base and Midwest Order put on one of the largest events we have ever done. We did a fundraiser and "Make a Wish" for a little boy named Max. Max is a Star Wars fan that has been diagnosed with a very rare brain tumor....only 100 cases are documented each year. Max had a "Make a Wish" to battle Darth Maul. Due to his illness, radiation, and other issues, the folks at Make-A-Wish did not feel they could grant his wish. We did....and there was a representative from Make A Wish at the event...she gave us two thumbs up... ;D On Saturday the local church gave over their gym to us Star Wars geeks....we built and ran games, donated items for a charity raffle and showed up in huge numbers.....we had around 35 costumed participants. We also made sure that Max was properly dressed for his battle with Darth Maul. I sewed Max a proper Jedi robe and purchased a child's Ultra Saber for him. At the prescribed time, Max got his robe and saber and Darth Maul (in the form of Pat Higgins-who shaved his head for Max at a St. Baldricks event) came out to duel with Max. All in all, this event was a blur... but went very smoothly. We netted over $4,000.00 in donations to Max's charity.... and everyone seemed to go home happy. To find out more about Max... go here: www.maxlacewell.com/Max's families journal can be found here: www.caringbridge.org/visit/maxlacewellTJA members present were: Whinter Fenlynn (event co-ordinator - wearing her Biker Scout costume) Kesko Wethers - wearing his Rebel Fleet Trooper-Kesko donated the lifesize Yoda in the raffle Jan-Qui - in Jedi Myself - in Jedi Max received something that TJA does not often do... He was made an "honorary Padawan of The Jedi Assembly". One of the members of the 501st made this plaque for Max... Here I am giving the Plaque to Max: Here is Max getting his Jedi robe and lightsaber: and battling Darth Maul: We had quite the crowd of costumes present- I don't think this photo actually includes everyone: Patrick (Darth Maul) even painted Max a painting of the duel: More photos: s201.photobucket.com/albums/aa304/schphgochi/Max%20Wish%203-7-09/

Just as a personal note, do you know how much longer he had left? Max is undergoing radiation right now.... for the time being the tumor has shrunk...BUT... as I learned with Isaac... I try not to get my hopes up.... as always with us humans... each person is unique.... one never knows what the future will bring...
