I am new here and I wanted to find out if anyone from TJA goes to Comic-Con in San Diego and how many are going this year. I would love to meet up with a few people

Unfortunately we do not have a large presence in California. I went a few years ago with another Council member, but have been able to return (I would love to go back again someday). I hope one day to get enough coverage to be able to do a Fan Table one year

I've never been to SDCC, I mostly do east coast stuff... I really would like to go next year and see it for myself. Heard so many great things! This year is C6 and then dragon con the week after.

My 2 sons are going... Andrew gets exhibitor badges with the studio he works for, and Adam is flying out there to join him. But... a Jedi should not be jealous...  Next year for me!!!!! |

There are many SoCal Jedi listed as members here but they no longer post. Probably many of them will be at SDCC. You'll probably find them at Rebel Legion/Sunrider Base table, if there is one.

Ah....SDCC.... An elusive goal for me. I wanted to go to SDCC years ago instead of going to D*C, but then found out how expensive it would be and not meeting any TJA members there. I went to D*C instead... Yes, it definitely is expensive! I'm a Marriott gold member and the rate was still up there. (The Marriott is literally right next door to the convention center.) Daily rate at the time in 2009 was $469.00 per night. I showed my AAA card, requested if there was a special rate for the con, asked about the family rate and everything else I could think of, offered by the competitor hotels. My rate dropped to $229.00 per night. That I could live with! And, I had the time of my life. If you walked two blocks north of the hotel, there were very reasonably eatery's. And I mean reasonably. Now that I've been to SDCC, I plan on going again in 2014. Once every five years is enough for me. I love being around people, meeting the actors, purchasing the swag and wearing my Jedi. It's all very overwhelming. But then again, there's nothing like SDCC. ;D |

I stayed a couple of miles away and the hotel had a shuttle that ran to the Con (with a little coercion). Had to take a taxi back cause I missed the shuttle and wasn't sure where the bus route was from the hotel. I'm a small-town girl. I don't know much about city buses.
Hotel wasn't bad, but there were a lot of homeless guys around. And the street behind us had a bunch or old RVs parked where they lived at night. They didn't bug us at the hotel, but if we went to the CVS next door, they would hit us up

That happens at Dragon Con alot.. Once you start walking on the street you get attention you don't want.
