Oh man, snakes used to send me screaming from the room, untilI read up on them and realised they'er more scared of me than I was of them. I got to know a snake a friend had. She was a ball python who loved to sleep in the bottom of my haori's sleeves. She liked how the fabric felt on her skin.(Who wouldn't, silk rocks. :-D ) You wouldn't think I'd cry when the snake died, but I did. Talk about a change, fear to a love for the critter.
"religious' Icons. ehh I can take 'em or leave 'em. The crucifix always creeped me out not because of who it represents, but the attitude and thought behind it. I'm with the mesianic jewish folks, no icons or images of the creator in the Temple mainly cuz he said not too.
Aston, fear fo fear is a valid one. Fear is alright as long as the person doesn't exsist in a lifestyle of being afraid of everything. It's not fun. I've a friend who is this manner of exsistance.

i agree with aston. a man once said "there is nothing to fear but fear itself". and its true, for fear leads to panic. not only that it is the path to the dark side. a midget once said (yoda is cool though) "fear leads to anger, anger to hate, and hate...leads to suffering"
spiders dont bother me, maily because they eat the other bugs that do, they eat mosquitoes. since mosquitoes love me so much *scratch, scratch, scratch* anything that eats them is cool in my book. there is only one spider i fear and that is the brown recluse, cause if you get bitten by one of those little buggers you can loose an apendage to necrosis (ewwwww, flesh rotting whilst its attatched to me).
i guess im more afraid of my imagination though. my imagination is extensive to the point that i can come up with worse things that frighten me than anything this world will come up with can frighten me. so i more frighten myself than anything else, but this is the path to the dark side......ill have to watch myself.
"named your fear must be before banish it you can" (yoda...duh)
so i guess since i know what im afraid of ill be ok, i might banish it..........although i would rather not banish myself.
but im done quoting for now

Fear of the unknown is a biggie.... fear of of getting sick, dying prematurely and leaving my kids... and the horrible thought of your kids dying in an accident or something... that's way worse.
I also have an irrational fear of the dentist... like a phobia. I shake and my heart races in the chair. Last time the anesthetic wouldn't take effect and I just freaked and started sobbing. I felt so stupid but I just react that way. Bad experiences as a child I guess... I always had bad teeth. Once when I was little I even hid in the closet in the dentist's office. Then they found me and the dentist told my mom to take me someplace else.
Also I can't stand ticks... the creep me out. Other bugs are ok, but ticks--- forget it.
Fear of looking stupid... but I should be used to that by now! lol!

It's worse now with my kids driving... and my youngest coming home from school alone... bad thoughts, bad thoughts... I have to force myself to think of the probability vs. possibility ratio! The original reason I learned martial arts was to be able to protect my kids in the event of Lord knows what.

I take martial arts to protect myself as well. Yet I have to agree with you.. Driving.. my folks freaked.. and they had three of us driving our own vechicals and weve all been in an accident at least once from wither somone else or our own doings.
One of the big thinsg I fear with the mind wandering is for my husband. Stuff lsuch as. "Am I doing what I need. and if Im not will he be mad". It's from small things like that to stuff that I know isnt real.. but that could happen and are worse possibilites. The largest is him leaving me or loosing him on the him serving the country.

Failure. though I recognize its role as teacher and have had enough "lessons" in it.

my parents werent too bad when i started driving. although maybe thats because my father drilled into me good habits. other than the speeding thing, i always go ten over the speed limit, but my dad never cared about that....he always said as long as your paying attention and not on the phone it doesnt matter if your going ten over or under, you should be able to handle anything fine.

I tend to speed too.. But I also keep aware for the cop traps n the area.. when I go to new places I try to not speed as I dont need a ticket.

Heh I just found this thread... I'm afraid of throwing up, and teeth and fingernail/toenail injuries. Does that sound weird? Like, when people get teeth knocked out or when they rip off fingernails, that scares the hell out of me. I'd rather get stabbed in the leg than have a fingernail break off. I've even had nightmares where my teeth fall out! (someone once told me that means I've been lying?? ) Other than that I'm not really scared of anything. I love spiders! Turantulas are awesome cause they are furry, like little eight legged kittens.

Yeah...little eight-legged kittens without visible ears and several pairs of eyes...*shudders* I'm not technically afraid of spiders. I see what place they have in the world; eating smaller insects and controlling the rodent population and such. The only spiders I really fear are the deadly ones; ditto with snakes. Garter snakes, boas, king snakes, etc, I'm okay with. But a rattler? No, way. I can't even see one of those guys stuffed and behind glass without shaking like a leaf and slowly backing away. I mean, I've had nightmares of being surrounded by the things. A couple days ago I nwas walking and I found a disembodied skin of one. I just stood there for a few minutes before I got up the courage to go around. As far as the spiders go, I actually like daddy longlegs. They can't hurt me and they eat insects I don't like. They're almost...cute? Tarantulas aren't too bad as long as I'm not touching one. Aside from poisonous snakes and spiders, there's not much I fear. I fear needles a little bit, but as long as I think of something pleasant and relax, I don't feel a thing. I'm not afraid of injury, the unknown, or even death. About the only thing I fear in the injury department is something happening to my hearing. I could stand it if all my other senses left, but not my hearing. Music is one of the best things in my life. One more thing; I fear amusement rides that go both backwards AND upside down at the same time, but I rode one anyway; the Sky Screamer. I was okay with it as long as I didn't watch when I went upside down. (Check out the Scandia website and the Victorville branch to see pics.)

As far as the spiders go, I actually like daddy longlegs. They can't Did ya know that for their size that they are one of the most poisonous spiders? Admittedly, I've only heard of their bite being when accidentally stepped on or otherwise squished...my sister got bitten when she squished one during riflery and it resulted in some nasty looking blisters.

I mean I'll be honest. I did have one fear when I was younger. I used to think that if I rode rollercoasters like the ones at Six Flags, I used to think that my heart wouldn't be able to take it, and it would burst and I would die. But then when my family and I went to Six Flags Great America in Calfornia, and I was 13 years old, my sister talked me into riding the Demon with her. I was scared out of my mind before the ride started. But once we started moving and then as the ride went on, I was having a blast. After that, we rode every ride in the park, and some of them a few times back to back. I love rollercoasters now. And yea, also when I was a kid, like 4 or 5 years old, I remember I used to be terrified of Michael Jackson's Thriller video. But now, I laugh at it, and I love the dancing sequences more. So I guess, once I grew up, I grew out of fears that plagued me when I was younger, and I don't really have any now.
