Who's bothering with it, and why or why not. I'm gonna go even if it's just to get my son to experience the full SW thrill on the big screen, even tho he's seen it hundreds of times. Even tho Jar Jar is still there, guess I must be a sucker for punishment.....

I'm not a big fan of Ep 1, but I have to admit I felt a little thrill when I heard the opening chords of Duel of the Fates.

Unfortunately, my eyes prevent me form experiencing the 3D effects and leave me with nothing but frustration and severe headaches. plus I wear glasses and its hard to wear the 3D glasses over my own. So... I will bow out. IF the 2D version happens to come to my town I will probably see it, though.

I have a similar problem to Cor-Al. 3D gives me motion sickness. So unless one of the local theaters also shows it in 2D, I won't be going.

That's a shame. Best not to see it if it makes you sick. I used to struggle with the old red and green glasses giving me bad headaches but the newer ones seem to be ok.

I'm going, love it on the big screen, waiting to see if it will be at one of the theatres where I go from work.

My wife and I are trooping it for the release, but honestly, I'll probably take the complimentary passes we'll get and see a different movie. I've been spoiled by the Blu-Rays now and my wife wear glasses with the same situation as mentioned above. I'd rather go to something that she could enjoy more.

Here in Canada they are showing it in 3D and 2D. While I dislike the fact that 3d reduces the colors of a film cause the glasses are dark it will be nice to see the film in a new way. If it does well Lucas will do the originals.

If it's shown in 2D here, I'll see it again on the big screen!

The 2D glasses might cure the nausea, but wouldn't do anything about the premium ticket price for the 3D movie.

I was understandably hesitant about going to it. I'm not a big fan of Episode I, to tell you the truth, but like it was mentioned earlier, the thought of Star Wars on the big screen is too much to pass up. And every saga has a beginning, even if the beginning is aimed squarely at 10 year olds.
I went and saw it, and I have to say, I was as disappointed in Episode I this time as I was when I first saw it in theaters eons ago when it was first released. Cringe! Jar Jar Binks! Cringe! Other Gungans! Cringe! Jar Jar Binks has a speaking role! Cringe! SO DO THE OTHER GUNGANS!!! AAAAAAHHH!!! Run for your lives!
...but I digress....
As I was leaving the theater, it occurred to me that the same thing could be said about - gasp! - Return of the Jedi!
...You heard me...Oh, yeah...I went there!
But if you search your feelings, you KNOW it's true! Phantom Menace...Gungans. Return of the Jedi...Ewoks! And we all know Ewoks are aimed SQUARELY at kids! The only difference is that at the time of its release, WE were the kids they were aiming at! But what's more kid-friendly than a giant, walking teddy bear? And what about Lando's co-pilot in the Millenium Falcon? You want to make accusations of blatant racism, Nien Nunb is quite clearly an analog of people of Asian descent; not in his mannerisms, folks, JUST in his physical appearance. So, clearly, most of the accusations that people have leveled at Phantom Menace (Jar Jar as a racial caricature of the most heinous kind and demeanor...It's a kiddie movie) can also be leveled at Return of the Jedi, to a certain degree. And I know why, and it's a good thing, believe it or not....
Star Wars is a very dark story, overall. Anakin starts out as a SLAVE; he's torn from his mother at an unreasonably early age (9); the Old Republic is taken over from within and turned into a repressive empire; the Jedi are incredibly blind to the re-emergence of the Sith, even though there's an enire temple full of them to meditate on it; Luke loses his aunt and uncle; Han Solo is frozen in carbonite after bein betrayed by his friend and sold out to Darth Vader...it goes on from there. You get the point....
It's a fairly dark story, with a lot of loss and sadness. But Phantom Menace and Return of the Jedi frame the entire thing in a very positive light. It starts on a happy note, an it ends, ultimately, on a happy note, and that's a GOOD thing!
So, was I impressed with the movie? No...But I didn't go for the movie...I went for the movie IN 3D!!! Hahaha!
My faith in 3D technology was re-affirmed by Avatar; it was an awesome movie experience, and it made me remember why we go to movies. It made paying the extra two dollars worthwhile! I was hoping for the same thing with Phantom Menace...and, I was disappointed. It certainly looked like it was coming off the screen, but there wasn't nearly enough stuff coming off the screen. I remember this one scene in Avatar where they were in the jungle, and there were these dragonflies or pre-histori mosquitos or...whatever, an they were fluttering around, and buzzing, and they were flittering at me! It was like they were IN the theater WITH us! I almost wanted to swat them, lol! But there was nothing super-surreal like that with Phantom Menace. And I was certainly hoping for that with the pod race! There just wasn't enough boom-pow for me with my goofy Darth Maul 3D glasses....
On the plus side, though, I was able to keep my goofy Darth Maul 3D glasses! :~D
...May the Force be with you!
