Being totally lost, and desperately wanting to join the Jedi Assembly, I hope it is acceptable to start my own "Please help me because I'm a total newbie" thread. I am a total costuming n00b. I've never in my entire life had a bona fide Halloween costume EVER, much less a movie-quality Star Wars costume. I have absolutely no sewing or craft skills, nor the time, patience, aptitude or talent required to cultivate them. So, my only recourse is to buy ready-made costume pieces that meet Jedi Assembly standards/requirements. I currently have a pair of 16" black motorcycle boots that I was hoping to use (instead of dropping another few hundred dollars for footwear alone): Here are some of the pieces I found to make a Generic Old Republic Jedi. My question to this august Assembly: Do the items pictured in this post meet Jedi Assembly (and Rebel Legion) standards and requirements so I can be admitted as an active member? Belt (Black to match boots & utility pouch): Utility Pouch (Black again to match Belt & Boots): Dark Brown Tunic, Obi, and Leather Tabard with Dark Brown appliques: If the tabard with leather appliques is not kosher, here is a picture of a Dark Brown Tunic, Obi and Regular Tabard (replaces the Leather Tabard with appliques): Undershirt: Brown Jedi Robe: Lightsaber Hilt: Lightsaber Emitter close-up: Lightsaber pommel close-up: And of course, I suppose I'll need pants. I was thinking of getting something like Mace Windu's:

From the Jedi Assembly's ArticleV, Section 7: "Furthermore, the only saber colors that the Jedi Assembly will allow are blue, green, purple, yellow, silver or orange unless dressed as a specific character." Ultrasabers.com offers a blade color known as "Sunrider's Destiny" which is like a cyan or blue-green color. Because cyan, blue-green or "Sun Rider's Destiny" is not mentioned specifically in Article 5 section 7, does this mean that this blade color will not be acceptable to the Jedi Assembly? I would like to get this color because I would like to join the Rebel Legion's Sunrider Base, and thought that it would be nice to have a blade color that shared my (prospective) home affiliation's name. It is also the blade color I preferred the most when I played my favorite Star Wars video game, Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords. It also seems to be the same color as the text on the Jedi Assembly message board... Coincidence?

the only problem would be the black iin your costume.Unless you are doing a "face character" that has required black pieces(Luke Skywalker's Jedi knight)black isn't allowed.Boots I would recommend the Funtasma boots unless you are willing to spend big money on the leathers.Jedi belts the are a few people that does them, but are easy to make.I like costumebase's things on e-bay.I don't know how the belts are,but I've got the food capsules, pouches, and a pair Qui-Gon like boots that have really served me well.

Thank you so much for your response! I used to think that, too, what with all the threads regarding forbidden colors and shades. Then I read the Jedi Assembly's Jedi Code. Article 5 Section 3 states, in part: "At this time, black belts and boots ARE acceptable, but this may be subject to change at a later date." Has the date changed such that black boots and belts are no longer allowed? Also, since belts are allowed to be black, wouldn't that rule carry over to the belt pouches by incorporation? I hope this doesn't come across as impertinent or disrespectful. I'm just a n00b askin' n00bi$h questions, is all... ;D

Hi there,
First off great approach to looking at what your seeking. Nice stuff so far. When I first joined I had black tabbards. Back then they were allowed but are not currently. However. I do wear them at events or non formal functions or just trooping in general. However if JA or official stuff is going on I wear a set of brown tabards. That way I can wear what I'd like and still have an officially approved outfit for troops. So that would be my advice. If ya can't afford both kinds get your approved ones first.

The code has not changed. Black boots and belt are still allowed. It's just that no black tunics are allowed, except the Luke. I think I would allow the appliqued tabbards, as long as they are dark brown (the image looks black).

I think the applique tabbards are interesting and there is face character precedence for that. I don't see a problem with the cyan blade, actually it's kind of pretty, unless it's a predominently Sith-ish colour it should be fine. As Kai said, black is ok for belts & boots so pouches attached to the belt gives a cohesive look.

I have a black belt and pouches for my Jedi costume but the tabbards I have made are not the best looking....I am making a brown belt right now to use...I posted a pic of me in it on the gallery thread...I want to make a darker brown pair but it's extremely hard to find VERY dark brown material to make them from...I had also thought of making a smaller black pair. Will it be ok for me to make the black pair to wear for now till I can get the darker vinyl for the tabbards? I am going to try and make the tabbards smaller too that are brown. DianaG

Thank you so much for your helpful feedback and guidance, Masters Ky-Wan Zann, Kai-Thri Ona, and Nova Darklighter.
I'll make sure to submit both the non-leather and leather applique tabard versions for approval.
Thank you again so much, and I sincerely hope to become an official member of the Jedi Assembly soon!

Use the additional costume photo for approval of the second set of tabbards. We do not have a way to add multiple costumes the way the RL membership application does.

Well, it looks like I need to go back to the drawing board and reconsider my Old Republic Jedi costume, or at the very least, shelve those plans for later. Reason: I wanted my first costume to comply with Rebel Legion, Jedi Assembly and Sunrider Base standards. With that in mind, it appears that Master J'aii-Gun Jiinn is correct. My thanks to Master Jiinn for her contribution to my quest. Although black boots and belt may pass Jedi Assembly's kind and generous standards for Old Republic Jedi costumes (for now, at least), they will not pass Rebel Legion (and therefore Sunrider Base's) scrutiny. Special Thanks to Commander Tag "Hazard Three" Greenly of Sunrider Base's Hazard Squadron for the following information: I'm now shifting gears and looking at a acquiring a New Republic Jedi costume. Commentary: I'm not a big fan of the D-ring requirement for New Republic Jedi. I'm more than hesitant to install any kind of ring, hoop or hook on my future $400 lightsaber.
