Thought I'd post up a pic of the new gear: I'd say it's *mostly* finished... I'd like to upgrade the bracers to a "lighter" dark brown and tweak a few things, but you know how that goes! One of our local 501st guys requested I get this finished for a kid's event so it went out for a "test drive" on April 11th and then I did a bit more before this photo shoot on May 1st. I took some pics along the way... sort of a WIP but more of a Trial & Error (LOTS of error! ) so I'll get those posted up over time, not necessarily to "inspire" but to show that "yes, you too, can do this..." Seriously, Chris gave a great set of instructions for finishing the raw cast, but per usual, I had to experiment and get in over my head. And I wouldn't trade the experience for anything... I learned a LOT. So just wanted to "show and tell"...

Thank you all. And now I have a question for those of you who also do the armor... what do you do with your lightsaber? This is another example of the "Law of Unintended Consequences". I'm so used to wearing my robe... the hilt goes on the belt; the blade goes into the robe pocket. Great. You want an action shot with the blade? No prob... pull out the blade, drop in the hilt, pose.... voila! Obviously I don't have any place to put the blade in this costume... so I carry the saber around like I don't know what to do with it. I have this assumption people want an action shot in this particular costume... it is after all "battle gear"... so a full saber seems to make more sense than just wearing the hilt. But a hilt is just "easier". It would just be SOOO much better if someone would invent a REAL lightsaber and then we wouldn't have this issue... LOL How do you other "armored Jedi" handle this when you go out for troops or worse, cons?

Ooh, the armor looks great, Kryy! I don't have armor, but for events where I expect "action", I wear a non-functioning hilt on my belt and carry a dueling saber for photos and the sparring that almost always comes up. It's a bit akward because you always have the saber in your hand, but it seems to work fine for troops. I've done this for cons as well, but not all day, every day. I'm waiting for your tutorial on a real lightsaber!

Nice armor! I would consider making a 'saber bag'. I was going to try that for CV, though I think I'll have my robe most of the time, though I can't count on it in the summer heat.
Basically, I was going to take some of the numerous brown scraps and make a long bag with a shoulder strap for the blade. Something that would blend in with the other brown colors I'd be wearing. The trick would be to not have it hang too loose or low so it bans on my shins or knees as I walk. The shoulder strap would allow me to have my hands free at least.

Thank you, Ladies! Ani, I have a bag like that I wear under my robe that's very "utilitarian"... it's the same material so it sort of hides most of the time. But maybe I could make a better looking one that could be seen. Hmmm.... And Acal, you know I've done the belt hanger and one-to-carry thing, too... that's another idea. Actually, I've changed my mind about the saber a bunch when I've trooped with the regular Jedi garb... sigh... it's just worse with having no robe. I actually have a cloak for the general... I just haven't worn it b/c it covers up the armor so it looks like a dress and a cloak. The perils of perfectionism.... Someone needs to get working on that "real" saber for us! LOL

See I either hold the saber with the blade or take the blade out or leave it wherever I can and take the hilt(cause it plays music) on the belt. If I'm wearing armor the saber of course looks better out though I do have a cloak as they wear in clone wars for it. You would be better making a bag or such for it, or plan ahead for when you need it

I usually go out in costume and leave the blade behind, but I keep a plug in the saber that lights up, to get some of the effect.
Then at the end of the evening when there seems to be most of the pictures, I bring the blade...usually after lunch. This second trip is usually shorter and mostly for the purpose of posing.

That looks Fabulous! I have a bag that holds the fx & a hilt on my belt that is a spare prop. A lot of time, I let the kids hold the fx in the pix & do a force push pose, they love it, especially the parents.
