This year again the Montreal Con*cept will be in town on october 17-18-19 2008. But hopefully. Its going to be better this time than the one in 2007 heres the website www.conceptsff.ca/Personnaly, I dont know if we will be there with a table. But we will see with the rest of us whos going and whos not. Its still pretty far.

I have mixed feelings about manning a table again at Con*Cept. That specific convention is about 250-500 visitors, with about 75% of "returns" from previous years... exposure isn't the best: most have seen us 2 years in a row already. Moreover, the spot we get is the dealer's room: people don't expect to see fan tables there; and people who wants to see fan tables don't look there. I think it is a reason for low response we got in the past. I think we'd be better trying to man a table at FanExpo and/or Polaris then Con*Cept. I also think that a TJA presence at con*Cept in another way then manning a table would be better. Maybe trying to make a pannel on prop building or on lightsaber choreography? last year's friday evening pannel on Jedi costuming had a good answer. To be honest: manning a table is a big obstacle in making a pannel or plainly seing the convention: with only 3 to 4 TJA members at the convention, there isn't much time left for something else. ----- BTW: this happens at the same time as the Blainville Haloween festival. we should plan our things accordingly apfoister.proboards9.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=canord&thread=4664&page=1

but i mean ( its a personnal opinion ) 1. Way too small 2. Expansive admission for not much 3.Few cool tables but for the rest, I really dont know 4. Not a lot of visitors
Personnaly, last weekend at the toycon. it was way more amazing. I think the people of the concept should lower the admission price and rethink the entire concept of the event. I dont know but my opinion, somethings missing.

Oh, I fully agree...
but. Its the only formal scifi/ fantasy convention downtown Montréal. Won't become better if nobody shows up. There have been debates about that in the Montreal fandom for a while already. I agree its expansive for what you see, particularly if you don't attend too much panels (which happens while you're manning a table). Still, I feel we should go in order to keep montreal conventions alive. You have to come to the masquerade and room parties on saturday evening, that's where the fun is.
However, as an organisation, TJA must think of several things...
1- visibility 2- awareness 3- membership
The points you are brigning up are opposite to what it takes for TJA to achieve the goals it has by participating in conventions manning fan tables.
I get to think what had to be done in that convention by TJA has been done already.

because its the time if we want to do it this year. I know you have contacts with the Concept people. And to ask for TJA flyers if Master Leda cant come.

I tought we came to the conclusion that having a table, and all its implications, was more problems then the benefits we'd get from having a fantable for a 3rd year in a row, as opposed to being present in costume, and passing flyers / tattoos on the go.
So, short answer, no. I plan on being there at least the saturday, and distribute some goodies. I think we'll have a bigger impact this way then being confined to the dealer's room.
I was MSNing with Master Leda today, she's looking about coming for the con. nothing set in stones yet.

Once again, you are right Master Nay LOL. I was getting tired walking around with my army duffle bag full of props. Way too heavy LOL. Fine Commander Jull reporting for duty at the 2008 MTL Con*cept on saturday

just a reminder that Con*Cept is on 17-18-19 so that's starting next friday.
I personally won't be there all week-end, but I'll be present on saturday the 18th.

The convention was a lot smaller then previous years, being that it overlaps the Halloween Festival seems to have not helped in that matter.
It was still a load of fun.
We had decided to not have a TJA table, but somehow the Con-Com did reserve one for us. Sadly, I was the only TJA representative present, and without ennough manpower (and with no preparation) I couldn't have a TJA table, but the point here is that they expected us being present!
