I used to read a lot on TCSS but for some reason didn't visit the forums in months... There's a lot of great knowledge in there. I did a lot of catch up this week. Yes, there's a few guy who made recharge ports. I like the R/C plane aparitus picture of one of the guy where you see the batt level in addition to an ON/OFF switch and recharge port. Kinda neat.

When I do a recharge port Iam gonna have it so all I have to do is take my pommel off and it sits in there. I just need a nice flat button.
So I can keep it sleek looking.

yeah, I think tcss is one of the places where people get really inovative. You should see Dewback Wing's ASAP, I don't believe we'd be talking about luxeon lighted blades without their "new saber lightning strategy" thread. TCSS only adds a cherry to an already made cupcake.

Well tcss has been a round for a while, they moved to the new forums nit to long before I joined there and before that it was a private forum. what they ment by that I have no idea.
But I have learned all I really need to make eletronic sabers. and with the new tech boards like ervs and hopefully ultra makes one like Ihave read then I wont have a need for MRs.

ASAP's sabre forum predates TCSS by years. The luxeon sabre was practically invented over there. Admittedly TCSS forums are the place to go for most current activity but some of us still remember the roots of it all As for Erv's new crystal focus board, well mine should be arriving very soon as I was the first person to place an order when the cart went live on friday - yay. Cant wait for it to arrive.

ROFL I had a luxeon saber long before Tim openned his store. ^_^ Their private forums was reserved to customers of TCSS. I used to (barely) post there. But I agree, erv's all-in-one board is a gread product. Jeffrek, when you have it, can we get a review?

I hope you do. The possibility to customize your saber down to the sound, speed and reaction seams the best hack around. If you're to be stuck with a single set of sound, better get the cheaper way and reuse a MR sound board.

Ive done a couple of MR fx conversons and while the sounds etc are good Ive never been happy with the drive fro the luxeon. The MR circuitry just cant cut it so you need to add an extra driver to power the led properly. The sabres are big enough with the guts of even a Maul FX so Erv's board that is smaller, drives the led properly and has sounds and configurations that are easily changed is just going to be great. Hopefully it should arrive tomorrow morning. Im planning on running all the wires from it to a small connector (just a 0.1" header strip) so that I can swop it from sabre to sabre
I will be sure to give it a reveiw both after it arrives and also when Ive got it installed in a sabre.

Yes I know all about the drivers from there. I have several of them currently. If you look at the rated specifications however you will see that all the ones needed to drive a 3w led all need a minimum of 5v to work properly. Now a MR fx works from 4.5v so the drivers dont work properly unless you also upgrade the battery supply to a 4 cell configuration. This of course increases the size requirements of the sabre which is a major factor for many designs. You can fit a 3xaaa arrangement like the MR's use in 1.25" thin walled tube which is used as a basis for alot of the slimmer designs but not a 4xaaa without increasing the length needed. Thats not possible to achieve with some sabres. Of course if your using off the shelf parts from the MHS or a sink tube as a basis (which arent available in the UK anyway) then you have a wider sabre to start with givng you the extra diameter internally that you need. Ervs new board however is 6mm high and will fit ontop of the batteries in even thin hilts allowing greater flexibility in the design as well as blowing the MR sounds out the water and driving a luxeon properly at up to 1.3amps (adjustable via a software change). Whats not to love about it really

yeah but I cant constitute spending 150$ just for something as glorafyied as that. yeah its nice and all but man150$ I could make a saber or 3 with 150$.

Xwingband (of TCSS) has a review of Erv's board up over at the Randomsabers forum. There are also links to two short vids of it in action as well as the manual......it is awesome !!!!!
