Hmmmm. Wouldn't a stream of graviton particles affect the local mass of both the saber and whatever it touched???

I forgot to say negatively charged gravitons... It would essentially be a forcefield, but shaped by the focussing crystals into a linear steam. The effect would be that of a forcefield, and have repelling qualities, without the effects of say magnetic repulsion, this would only repel things actually coming into contact with the blade. The theory is admitedly based on Star Trek technology, but it's at least plausible Nothing bugs me more than the phrase "pure energy", because it is so wide ranging, it could encompass any form of energy, which leaves it completely open for writer's licence. If it was defined as a specific form of energy (gravitons being the most likely) it would at least be a) explainable, but b) limited to specific feats, not just capable of doing anything ;D

Has anyone seen this before? I stumbled upon it while websurfing. exn.ca/starwars/lightsaber.cfmIt's an interesting site to peruse! Talks about laser sabers, plasma... fun stuff...

thanks I hadn't seen that. The book I just got about the Science of SW discusses the possibility of a lightsaber blade of Plasma....it has unusual properties that might make it fit the bill.....only skimmed it though so far, too much else to read this week.

an old thread, but a good discussion. I DO however wish that both Raikoh No Yorimizu and Tobbok Nassais had returned to continue their input. It was really starting to get interesting!

me and my friend were talking about how a saber could work. He said he thinks it is a type of ion energy

Maybe the power cell uses an electric current to ionize gas to make it a plasma, and the current is fed back into the cell via the power field conductor. Or since quartz is used in resistors, maybe the crystals convert the electric energy to heat energy.
