Hi, I am a new member. My name is Tammy or Kenobilover on the boards. I live in Ohio and am a member of RL and the Jedi Knights of Cleveland. I am a homeschooling mother of five. I get to train them in the ways of the Force 24/7! Greetings....and welcome to The Jedi Assembly....you probably recognize my name from the RL as well... I like that....training the padawans 24/7..... We have had an many home-schooled teens here in the past as message board members....and indeed...they seemed so very mature...and certainly had their stuff together.... They have since "moved on" which is the way of the young...but we enjoyed their youthful enthusiasm when they were with us....

I imagine it can't be easy training 5 padawans...but isn't that against the Jedi code? What stage of Homeschooling are they in? I was homeschooled through HS and am now attending ITT.

I need to clear up that I do have 5 children, but only 4 are at home currently. My oldest son, Noah, is a freshman at the local high school; Noah has successfully passed his Jedi training! Actually, he wanted to go, and I was struggling trying to keep up with him. I have a 7th grader, a 5th grader, a 3rd grader, and a 1st grader. Did you like being homeschooled? What did you like most?

Yea, my dad was struggling to keep up on some of my classes as well. (which to me indicated that I was doing well) I enjoyed being homeschooled alot. It gave me a chance to get to know my parents at an entirely new level and it is for that reason that I hold them at the top of my list and is why I consult them about different problems. While I would not call them 'Jedi' I would call them my mentors about the real world. The thing I liked best about homeschooling was able to take the classes at my own pace so I was able to learn everything at my pace and not the pace of a class. I also enjoyed that I was able to choose some of my subjects that I was interested in. My Dad was the one who got me started into computers. Starting with how to find my way around different operating systems then to basic programming such as HTML. And finally I got into troubleshoot and repairing computers. This I continue to do even out of school at a local recreational center for youth I manage the network of computers that I built. I'm sure that your padawans will thank you later for homeschooling them (you might have to watch closely though, sometimes we show gratitude just by putting what you taught us into our everyday lives!)

I wish I had home-schooled my oldest, at least until high school. As it was, he learned nothing from elementary or middle school, and everything from reading about the subjects he was interested in. My middle child loves going to school, and my youngest has adhd, so I'm not sure I would have been able to teach him properly, as I know myself and I know I would have been too free with him. I'm not a very structured person.
Tammy, I commend you on your endeavor!

I am currently employed as a CNA working as an SLA at BLHS which is a care facility for the mentally challenged. And no I'm not saying that your youngest should be here I do however work with a few people who have adhd as well and the most important thing I've found with them is to have endless patience and to keep them active at things they like and to routinely try to shift their interest to other things. Maybe you can work with your youngest outside of school?... GL! MTFBWY!
