I went ahead and bought the Consular on the last day of the sale. The sound board was an introductory 1/2 off. I ordered it Sunday night. It arrived today.
It is FANTASTIC. It's very loud. It has a continuous blade hum as long as the blade is lit. I've yet to play around with the soundboard, which is accessed by a mini-usb port.
This is the saber I wanted way back in 1999 when I made my first Jedi costume. I still really like the ones I made myself and there's nothing quite like saying to a visitor to one of our events "I made it myself". But this saber has a great "wow" factor!

Glad to hear a review of the new soundboard.... I'd love to hear more as you have the opportunity to play around with it. So, um.... is that a *real* lightsaber? [Hope you enjoy it! ]

I came up with a new answer to that one.... your perception determines your reality.

In retrospect, I probably should have went with my instincts and got an Ultra Saber... instead, I ran into the Saber Forge website, and fell in love with their "Justicar" & got that. As predicted by some of the knights on the RL forum, some of the edges are sharp, and delivery took longer than stated, but overall, I still love the look. But now I'm wondering how easy it would be for the new Obsidian soundboard can be put in my Justicar...

I got the catalyst. A different look and a good saber, but:
- you need a tool to unscrew and remove the saber blade. - there isn't a hook or clip for attaching to to your belt.
The sound is the best and the blade is bright. Definitely a quality saber though not as convenient as my other sabers. I'll look into ways to hang it on my belt and quickly take the blade in and out.

Huh. Both mine from ultrasabers came with the clip that fits a covertec. Even the parks needs a hex wrench for the blade.

I was gonna say, most sabers I've seen, you need a small Allen wrench to tighten the blade in. I guess if your design permitted it, a well-placed thumb screw with a long enough thread could be used the same way.

I got an UltraSabre this weekend, WOW, love it! I got the Manticore RGB w/sound and some bells n' whistles, con sale price allowed. I got the RGB so I could have my yellow blade at last, it also does blue, green, red, purple, and 2 more, 7 colours in all, sound is fabulously loud, can add a D ring by a screw and nut in the sound grid center, but got a covertec clip added as well. Should have seen them beating the blades on the table, talk about abuse! You can fence with these, they also have a heavier blade, can't imagine needing it. They are very helpful. Sabre came with the allen wrench for the blade and a set of Li-On batteries and charger as well.

Sorry about the Saberforge purchase. Hopefully you can salvage it it somehow.

At Dragon Con after seeing Nova's new lightsaber I well talked myself into getting a new lightsaber from Ultra. I was a bit angry with them before this as I have 3 other ultras I bought on line & just could not get any answers back from them to get answers to my questions. Well I made up for it this last trip. I got the same lightsaber as Nova but without all the the whistles. I like green for my blade which looks very bright & I liked the way you can see the green through part of the hilt. Well I saw 2 hilts & of course being me, I couldn't make up my mind which one I preferred so I bought both of the them. Then later on I decided I over did it & wanted to get a refund on 1 of them. Well again I talked to Gary, I think, who showed me how I can link my 2 lightsabers together (like Darth Mauls) yet only be green--WELL that sold me. I now have 2 green bladed lightsabers with different hilts that can be joined together for either battle or for wearing on my belt & that have detachable blades & have sound. Well when a Jedi goes shopping it seems a lightsaber draws us like a magnet. Gee I wonder why? I think the only real weaknesses they have is those very very very tiny screws they use that you need to use an allen wrench to tighten---a bit of a pain as they are so very tiny. I went to Meynards here in town & bought extra screws just in case I lose one. I may be emailing ultra to send me a few extra as well. Whatever one does DO NOT TAKE THOSE SCREWS OUT OF THE HOLE. Very hard to get them back in as I found out. Thank you Nova.

Yeah, I couldn't resist the cheap gag of having a light saber that has a blade with a changeable color.
I'm going to make a special little pouch for that allen wrench. BTW, it helps if you take a little bit of colored tape and make a little flag on the middle of the allen wrench. It makes it more visible and doesn't interfere with using it. I do that for the allen wrenches that fit the most relevant screws for my bicycle.

Hey ani, good tip, thanks. I'll probably get an extra wrench at the hardware store, and extra screws.

Maybe it was from the hardware store, but somewhere I got a little red holder for the wrench. The thin metal slides in and out of the plastic, sor of how you would store a needle in fabric.

I've got a set that looks like a thick pocketknife. All the different sizes fold in and out of the handle. Its big, but nice that its harder to lose. I have had so many of the tiny wrenches that I have lost I figured this might be better and more economical in the long run
