Okay, I've found a way to build an amphistaff that can go rigid and become flexible at your will. I'll post instructions and pictures later but I just needed to post and share the good news with you guys.

Verycool. I've been eyeing thise things for a while on out to make one. I was only going to have the stiff version so it can double as a walking staff. I can carry it when walking the dog.

Amphistaff refers to a weapon used by the Yuzhann Vong during the New Jedi Order. It is a living creature that can coil around its bearer's arm and strike at an opponent like a snake, it can also become rigid to be used as a staff. Very strong hide too. It can block a lightsaber.

I can't wait to see pictures, as I've always liked the sound of Amphistaffs. The only thing I don't understand (not having read the novels) is how it can block a lightsaber? I know Mandalorian armor is able to, and I figured the electro-staffs used by the Magna Guards had strips of the same material, but how could something organic block one?

The Yuzhann Vong grow all their armor, weaponry, ships, etc, so they probably bred the amphistaffs specially. Maybe they even managed to incorporate a version of cortosis into them... For those of you who don't know, cortosis is the only known material which lightsabers cannot penetrate without being deactivated. Don't ask how, just read the Hand of Thrawn Duology by Timothy Zahn

there are two other materials a lightsaber cannot cut as well . One is Mandalorian Iron. The other is Phrik Phrik is what the staffs are made of for General Grievous body guards

I'd be interested in hearing the physics behind this one!

Don't know about Physics....but if they bred the things to be basically non-aggressive and to live on a diet high in Cortosis it might do the proverbial "willing suspension of dis-belief" trick. I really want to see the pics......haven't read the books yet........

not sure if there r any comics of the Vong around, tho i know there r sum e-novels, not sure of theyre illustrated, but the covers of the books only really show wot the Vong themselves look like, not the armour or weaponry. Left to the imagination i should think....
