that thing is frekin huge, how tall was darth maul He's not very tall, actually. Here's a pic of me and Ray at Dragon-Con 2 years ago, and I'm 5'8".... so he must be like 5'10", maybe? That saber is awesome! I got to play with it at the NY Toy Fair, and it really is all that! I think, of the Force FX sabers, it's their best yet!

Your collection is fantastic Seda! ;D It is very much what I would collect if I had more disposable funds. The only EU lightsaber that catches my eye is Obi-Wan's Jedi Appentice saber.

In the movie the darthmaul blades were 30" long, although when his saber cut in half it was back to 36"
The FX saber had to cater to the single and the dual...so they just stuck to the long blade...

The Maul FX blades are 33 inches- so I guess they compromised.

Hi Obi 1, I like the design. A bit of Ep I and Ep III influence in there.

Well I manage to score a first gen Anakin AOTC FX saber off ebay- this was Master Replicas first FX saber ever in 2002. I had heard of the problems this first FX saber had- mostly with the sound- and unfortunately the one I received is no exception. The sound seemed to work properly for about 15 minutes- then it would go all wonky. Either not coming on in sync with the blade lighting up, or doing the "power down" sound (and the sound turning off even though the blade was still lit) all by itself- or not working at all. Needless to say I was disappointed, but not angered as I was half expecting this. On the upside- the blade lights up as it should and does a "fade out" for the power down effect. The hilt is scratch free and in excellent shape. The hilt is BIG. And this is the longest of all my single blade FX sabers at 46 1/2 inches! Next to my Luke ESB FX (which is over-sized to begin with). A comparison of brightness between the Anakin EL blade (top) and my Luke EpV LED blade (which still has the same batteries in it for two years now). Not nearly as bright, but the EL blade still lights up a dark room on it's own pretty well. Most surprising is how you change the batteries- I had read how to do it on the FX Sabers website. You turn the activation control box 90 degrees to reveal a Phillips head screw: Once you unscrew it, you can remove the back half of the hilt to reveal the battery compartment/speaker/motion sensor: Definitely not the simplest of designs. Even with it's problems, I'm happy with my purchase. Just nice to have to round out my FX collection.

Yeah I bought one of those full price from MR at CII. I was disappointed when I got it. But here's a funny story:
Yesterday my 12 year old son and his friends borrowed (with permission) my Maul sabers and my RotS Anakin and the were playing. Then I showed them the AtoC Anakin... that old one that I was so disappointed with, and they freaked! My son said "whoa mom, where did you get this? Check this out guys this one looks real! It's like real heavy and metal and everything!"
Go figure...

Yeah, newer FX sabers seem to look alot more plastic than the older ones. Nice grab tho Ki Vaan, but won't this saber be mostly for display anyway? So it doesnt really matter if it works properly?

I just like my props to do something. The blade lighting up is satisfying. When the sound does work- it is pretty quiet compared to the later FX's.

The overall design was inspired by a Sluis Van Lightsaber contest entry a few years ago (if that was yours please let me know so I can give credit). Incorporates elements from Luke's epIV saber and the mid grip from Obi-Wan's epI. Details:Pommel-cap: 0.25" Bevel-cut aluminum plug - Slides into handle and held by flat-head cap screws (covered by the rubber grips). Handle: 1 3/8" dia. thick-walled tube - slides onto main core - held by flat-head cap screws (covered by rubber grips) - 3.25" long to match the softer Anakin style rubber grips - Grips from Jedi-Supply.com and sit down into grooves cut to match grip width (helps them stay on better) - Covertec knob Re-charge Port: Milled into main aluminum core - Similar to the Graflex flash - Electrodes from TFX Studios (eBay). Mid-grip area: Activator & clamp lever from Parks Sabers - Anakin style touch-plate from ... can't remember - Activator cowl is thin-walled aluminum 1.5" dia. attached to main core by button-head cap screws (one visible, two under activator touch-plate) - Black grip is washing machine drain hose from Home Depot (fit perfectly inside thin-walled tubing) Front taper: cut into main core - no details Emitter Shroud: Cut from 1/8" thick-walled tubing 1.5" dia. - attached to main core by flat-head cap screws (visible) Control Knobs: Micro-machined to fit 1/2" dia black screw-covers (bought at Lowes) - held to emitter shroud by button-head cap screws. Emitter: Styled after Anakin's epII saber - plan to remake this in brass to balance the gold touch-strip. - screws into main core - can be unscrewed to retrofit a blade Overall length: 11.5" ~ Koda

That saber is awesome! I really like the modified graflexy activator and the homages to the OT sabers. Excellent
