I have a pill box that looks exactly like that! I got it at Sears a while back. It's round and silver with a soft dome top.

Do I hear prop made from found parts? Leda, if you can post pics of the box and any info you have, it would be appreciated.

Indeed! I really have no idea how I'd get it to open no matter what I use... trial and error!

you could use hinges and springs so that when you hit a button it pops open

well obviously I'm thinking more of how to keep the mechanism small and un-obvious, as well as the latch to keep it in place. That's the hard part I figure...

I can think of a number of small parts I've seen in other gizmos....tiny springs with arms attached to pegs that open and close like small hinges. Small plunger buttons..... maybe www.sciplus.com has something? They have all sorts of miscellaneous stuff for the average tinkerer/tool shed electrician to go gaga over.

The box itself says nothing at all ... but I bought it at Sears, in the department with all the wallets and change purses, key holders and money clips, etc... It didn't have any packaging. I actually found it while I was looking for Aurra Sing pouches for the gunstrap. The top is soft, it's supposed to feel like leather, and there is a hinge on the outside that could be hidden by whatever might be used for lights. It opens by a small push button. Here are a few pics... it's not exactly like it, but it came to mind right away when I saw those screenshots. Getting it to open 4 ways like that would be tough... I don't see how I could use the same lid.

I'm sure that if you look in a pharmacy or a grocery store, or Walmart, etc... you'll find something suitable. Just go look by the pill boxes, or in the make-up section and scavenge the assortment of pressed powder, eyeshadow, even lip gloss, and you're bound to find something. Oh, and look at Ki Vaan's picture again... doesn't the inside look like a small speaker from behind?

That's a great site to browse for parts! Thanks for the link As for the speaker comment: I think it's plenty close enough to start from! Good eye, this shouldn't be all that complicated if you wanted to make it a static prop and not really open or close. But therein lies the fun...

you know it kinda, maybe - sorta, looks like the top of one of those kiddy toys that spins and opens whan you push the plunger in...you know, pumkins opening, easter egga and such...I wonder if one coud be adapted? They seem to use the same basic hinge pattern.......
