There are two methods , first is the mustard method. In the case of macro binoculars , you base coat with silver to look like metal. next you spat mustard in spots. now you top coat with white. Letting dry between base and top coat . After it has dried you can wash the mustard off with water leaving a chipped / torn look Next method the one i used is as follows . You base with flat black, letting dry. You may need a few coats of each color for this method and you will see why at the end . Next midcoat is silver ,letting dry. Now the topcoat is again white . After it has dried a few days you use the finest steel wool you can get . I used 000 but ther is finer next you rub areas and edges you wish to look weathered this method give a worn look also a very first coat of primer is a good idea for either method . for more info see my stormtrooper friend at www.tk409.com/FYI triple 0 steel wool can be used on car windows but not the side mirrors ,it scratches them also if your car is white you may wish to blow it off as the tiny bits of steel wool with cause rust spots if left behind and it rains

Well Syn-Kai has been at it again prop making ... this time he came up with his own hand held holo device ...doesnt look like Qui-Gons... first i started with a container from bubble tape gum (a black one ) then i cut a large hole in one side with holesaw next and this is what gave me the idea was an old power antenna from work the plastic side had a twisted pattern this was cut out and painted gold placed in the hole in the container a button from radio shack was added as the on/off for the device and a bit of silver paint in some of the ridges on the pattern and container I will be carrying this in my belt public.fotki.com/Thunderunner/starwars/starwars_008.htmlWow... I just found this thread... Everytime I buy bubble tape I think what a good SW prop this would make! You did a great job here. I've been thinking of making a holoprojector that looks like Qui-Gon's. I was just looking at it in the EpI VisDic and it looks pretty easy, they look like pen clips that are bent and the middle thing looks like it could be a speaker. I do have a Holoprojector that came with this Anakin pod racer alarm clock... it's the remote for it. But it's a bit too big, I think.

I'll see if I can snap a pic of it.... but it's exactly like the pic of Qui-Gon's in the Ep I VisDic, just a bit bigger, I think. looks like a toy.

The Qui Gon remote is too big...........the photo in the Visual dictionary is correct size, when you see him hold it in his hand it is about the size of his palm. Also, the toy holoprojectors with the action figures on top that light up are too big, although they are very cool since they light up the action figures and look pretty realistic.
