I made two new pouches today. Both are Tandy kits. Both are shown in the catalog with tooling, but they come plain. I dyed them to match my belt. Tandy pouch belt bag kit (44345-00). It is 5" x 4.5" x 1.5". It is on sale for $10. While I've riveted leather, I've never sewn it before. This was quite easy, though the instructions weren't very clear. I found a site on line with better two-needle-stitching instructions. The cell phone pouch is Tandy kit 44262-00. i needed a less conspicous way to carry the phone. I'm going to enlarge the belt pouch pattern so it is big enough to hold my camera. I'm ordering another kit, too. I want to replace what I have with more roomy pouches. I have the wonderful reinone reproductions of Ep I pouches. While they have lasted these 5 years, the dye color doesn't match my belt. I'm generic Jedi, so I thought I could just have some generic pouches.

Excellent Pouches JediKai.
Although I generally cut my own pouches, I'll have to keep this one in mind when its on sale.

Oh, VERY nice! The large one looks about the same size as one of my pouches, except mine has a ring closure. I think I would have preffered a button snap.

Very nice, Kai. I actually bought that same kit (the pouch) from Tandy about a month ago, but haven't tried to put it together yet.

widen the belt loop on the big one a bit and you could use it to double as a belt keeper too.

Very nice, Kai! I made the Rover bag too -- about 2 weeks ago (before the sale ), and I know what you mean about the instructions being a little "vague". Tandy has a basic leatherworking booklet, and I had to use it to figure out the sewing (page 19) and the snap setting (page 28). [ftp]http://www.tandyleather.com/products.asp?number=61904-00[/ftp] Tenric, you are right about using it as a belt keeper -- the flap is nice and tight and doesn't wobble around and get untidy like some pouches. (Been there, done that...) There is also on sale a case for the tiny comlinks (ummm, cell phones) but it calls for more equipment than just a rivet setter or snap setter (2 drive punches and craft knife) and doesn't have the nice cover flap. The stock number on that one is #44261-00. I'm going to enlarge the belt pouch pattern so it is big enough to hold my camera. I'm ordering another kit, too. I want to replace what I have with more roomy pouches. Yes, that was the first thing I thought -- camera! Although when sewn together, the Rover is too small. Rats. Kai, I photocopied the leather pieces before I dyed them and put the kit together, with the thought of making a larger or smaller pouch to "match". Before I do that, I'm going to "cannibalize" a kit and ask my dealer what size snap, what kind of thread, etc. to match. I believe the sewing/lacing holes are a size 00, and there is a single punch in that size. (The multi punches or 4-in-1 are bigger.) (edited to add page number references)

Rebelscum....it's on sale nowThanks all. Leda, what's a button snap? This does have a snap. Ah, the pic was a little dark on my monitor, I couldn't tell what the closure was. A button snap is just a regular snap but with a round top like a button.

I have also taken the Small Belt Bag Kit pattern (44345-00) and halved it to make "small pouches" for Jedi pouches ... I use the Shoulder Bag Kit pattern (44447-02) to make "Rennie Pouches. I bought the kit copied the pieces before I put it together and then I have a "tested" working pattern. I'm looking at the Cigarette Case Kit (4119-00) as the basis for a possible pouch.

I considered the cigarette case when it was on sale last month. It appears to have large laces to hold it together rather than being sewn. Since I couldn't decide whether or not I liked that, I decided to save my credits for the time being. Mon-Jas, if you proceed with that one, I hope you'll do a "review" and post pix. And this is interesting that you have actually cut down the belt bag yourself..... like the action figures in the pics too! Hmmm.... now I wonder where she got that idea???

The small, belt bag is on sale on Tandy's web site, here. I might have gotten one when I was ordering stuff last week, but I don't really need pouches right now anyway. I was getting stuff to make straps for these really good looking boots I found on e-bay.
Nice pouches, Kai! And cool action figures, too.

I traced the pouch pieces before I dyed them, too. So I can size them up to make a camera pouch. I ordered some purse patterns, as I don't need the leather that comes in the kit. www.tandyleather.com/products.asp?number=6033-00I ordered 5 sq yds of leather. Hoping to find something in the purse patterns I can use or modify for something larger.

widen the belt loop on the big one a bit and you could use it to double as a belt keeper too. I thought of that. But the remaining "issues" with rotator cuff injury would make it hard to use the pouch so positioned. Once I get the leather order, I'm going to make a better belt-keeper to cover that back buckle. It's been something I've meant to do for years!
