Button Head Rivets for belts

I was reluctant to post this, but thought it may be important one day.

I suggest going to Dave over at

for now, if you need the Button head rivets, while he has them. He has helped me and many others by the looks of the threads here.

But, Sometimes clicking those google adds on the top seem to pay off.
I found this yesterday for when he runs out of them.

I wasnt able to find out the shipping costs, but the buttons are the same price, and same kind by the looks of it.
Looks like they have leather stuff as well.

Wow, you look pretty prepared! (I don't see the buckles though) What color dye is that? I can't read the bottle.

Are you going to do score lines? I see the tool to do that, who's name escapes me at this brain dead moment.

Are you also making another belt for your significant other?

The dye is the dark brown from tandy.
The Stitch Groover is for lines, yes, some of the pics ive seen, the ones with the lines seemed more finished to me is all.
No significant other, just me. Im expencive enough, hehe. Thats about $100 worth of junk there waiting to become a belt.
I have from Joann's a La Mode 3/4" silver plastic side release buckle, but ordered one of these 3/4" nickle ones, waiting for it.

Im waiting on the button rivets as well from Dave, so wont be able to start putting it together till next week.

I took that pic because i was thinking about turning it into a new tut, dont know if ill be able to, but was an idea. I took one of the Food Capsule parts as well.

Looks almost like my work area a couple weeks ago. I really liked that brown leather dye. It gave my leather the most beautiful shade of darkish brown.
I decided to go with snaps in the back of my belt. My Tandy dealer put the snaps in for free since I bought all of the materials from her. $56.00 total.
All I need now are some reasonably priced pouches or a very simple set of instructions on how to make my own.
Any ideas?

I too am starting down this path....I have both of the pieces cut wide and narrow main belts)....I also found a really nice buckle at a leather store that is a nightmare to negotiate and find anything...but did find a really simple buckle for the front.

I also purchased some leather punches...but...there are still a few tools that I need to buy....and some rivets...
I also found a plastic buckle for the back of the narrow belt piece that looks kind metallic....that was a find...

I plan on doing a series of snaps on the wider belt portion to allow for my ever changing waistline...it's up...it's down....lol....

For the people who are new to making belts and pouches I have a piece of advice.
I used my power drill instead of purchasing a leather punch. It saves some money, drills the hole real well and saves on wrist fatigue.

I have to wonder how clean of a hole a drill bit would make in leather, since it's not designed for that.
I can't help imagining it catching on the fibers of the leather and tearing it up, or leaving bits of it in the hole.

Leather punches are made to cut a nice clean hole in the leather.

I also cringe at the thought of someone using a nail as a punch. You are just pushing the leather aside, not making a clean, flat hole.

But I also understand that someone may not want to spend the money for a tool that they plan on using only once.

Since I wanted to learn to do various leather projects, the expense of tools is justified for me, because I will use them over and over.

Here is my latest leather project, from a few months ago, that I used a punch on. Many times! (with very adjustable straps)

A piece of wood works very well. Or place the belt on top of a thick piece of cloth.
I did my drilling on the kitchen counter so I needed a cushion on top of the counter.
Make sure you drill with the top of the belt facing up.
The holes drilled out clean and no damage occurred to the leather.
Actually it was my local Tandy dealer that suggested using the power drill.

I can see myself drilling through the countertop! lol!

I think I need to replace the "bits" (if that's what they're called) on my leather punch tool. Some of the sizes seem to be getting dull, and that might be why I'm getting blisters when I use it.
