Speaking of music and memories... What was the first record album you ever bought? Anyone? I bought the "Monkees Greatest Hits" from a television commercial back in 1974. Followed by "Frampton Comes Alive", and the first album by "Boston"! God, that dates me.

Hubby and I were talking just the other day about making a ring tone out of that handshake sound that the old modems made.
The first album I ever asked for was Hotel California by the Eagles. I was young enough to not really understand what the song Hotel California was about, but I loved that song. The first one I ever bought with my own money though.... sigh... Make it Big by Wham. Ah, the 80's... what were we thinking?

Hey, Jude on a 45rpm record. I can't even remember what was on the B side. That was the first one I bought with my own money, but the first records I remember owning were a Beatles cover album by the Chipmunks, and a couple of records by Jimmy Dean. I really liked "Big, Bad John". Mom tells me I liked his variety show, but probably more for the puppet Ralph the Dog than for Jimmy Dean himself. If I recall correctly, that was the first appearance of a Muppet (probably even before they had the term 'muppet'), as I'm pretty sure it was indeed Frank Oz. Might be wrong, though-that was WAAAY back in the 60s!

I remember dancing to "The Twist" as a very small person. My first record was "Down in the Boondocks" by Billy Joe Royal -- he was from Marietta, as is my Dad's family. The first record I bought with my very own money was "Dizzy". Do you remember that? Talk about bubblegum music.... And I did love the Monkees, too! Had all the little pinups from "16" magazine!

Oh man, 16 mag! I had wallpaper made out of those pages!!!!! Not a spot of free wall to be seen... the Monkees were an obsession, then the Bay City Rollers replaced them.... now you can visit the ogling thread to see what the current obsession is. LOL Did I mention I'm an obsessive person? In a good way!

SO DID I!!! LOL...... I remember my dad wouldn't let me watch TV during the week, but I had done well in school and he said I could watch one show so I picked the Monkees...When I turned the Tv on, the show had been pre-empted with the president. I cried and told my dad to call the tv station and tell them to put the Monkees on because it wasn't fair that I couldn't see it........ I was devastated....lol
