Could you answer these questions?
1) Does the picture show up when you open it?
2) Try just opening the program and clicking on the black space. Wait 10 minutes. Does anything show up?
3) If you can load a picture, load one that is halfway between dark and bright. click on it. What happens?

Wow!!! another programmer.... man, you guys really are like me! ;D
I am a C programmer though, actually I stick to web developing, so technically I am a Perl/PHP/JS programmer... I can do VB/ASP, but I prefer the C-based languages.
Peace be with you,

surprizingly, no, I have not touched Java.
I have heard it is rather similar to C, but just never really got into it.
Peace be with you,

This is how everything should work. After you click the download link, it should ask you if you want to save or open the .zip file. Save it on you harddrive. After closing all your programs, find the file again. Double-click it. A box with 3 files in it should pop up. It will be either your unzip utility or a normal folder. Find the file setup.exe and double-click it. Follow the on-screen instructions. After the program is installed, click Start Menu > Programs > Lightsaber Effect Tool 1.1.0. A "splash screen" saying that it is copyright me should pop up and go away again. A window with a large black area in the middle should appear next. Load a picture into the program by clicking File > Open. Move the mouse right on top of the blade emmitter of the saber in the pic. Press a mouse button down (it doesn't matter which) and hold it down as you move the mouse to the place where you want the other end of the saber to be. Let the button go. Wait until the saber appears (It should take less than 30 seconds). Please tell me if anything goes wrong .

Toba....I am going to put you on a mission....
Tanthos is requesting newer photos of the Jedi Council for the new web page.....soooooooo
I have a photo of me in my light Jedi costume inside the huge "human sized" Hasbro Clone Wars package...and I am holding their cheesy lightsaber.....if I can get the photo scanned (it is a regular print...not digital) and e-mail it to you ....can you add glow to the lightsaber and send it back?

Sure, what color do you want? I've programmed an additional algorithm for rotoscoping into the program, which I think looks a little better, except in green. Should I send back the pic rotoscoped both ways (two pics)?

I'll get home at about 2:00, so if you've sent it by then, it should be emailed back by 2:30 .
