I got my polycarbonate from usplastics.com, you have to buy in 8 foot sections and if u want cut, it's a $1.00 per cut, There web site dont tell ya that but I was incontact with them before I ordered. $6.24 for the 8 foot section and cut came to $11.12 and then added in 4.88 for shipping. $16.00 aprox

Don't use compressed material blades.
Sure, the blade itself is hard to break, but mine broke off at the threading that held it into my hilt. I had to wire brush it clean again with a dremel just so I could replace the blade.

So what different types of hilts are you guys using with these different blade types? My friends & I are in the pre-production (i.e. - talking about ) phase of a fan film & want to have a lightsaber duel (probably some type of sparring/training session more so than a duel). I currently have an old (Pre Episode I) ParkSaber, with the old style dim blade with the 1/4" jack - I haven't tried hitting it against anything (in the 7 years that I've had it), simply for the fact that when I even swing it I'm afraid it'll snap off at the hilt. This one has the set screw (which I'd have no problem in changing over to something a little more secure, say like a hex bolt that I could tighten down on whatever type of blade I used) - what do you suggest to use for filming/rotoscoping (at 30fps)? You've all made very valid points & arguments for your blade of choice...my eyes & ears are open, masters...

As someone who has spent more hours that I can count working with rattan (in one of my alternate personas), let me give a few pearls of wisdom to those unfamiliar with the material.
1. It's a grass, but doesn't behave that way. 2. It has the same resiliency properties as a greatsword - ballance and weight. 3. IT HURTS! Pad it well! 4. It has been over harvested for many years and is becoming expensive. 5. It doesn't "break" it gets mushy, the fibers separate making it soft but limp.
For practice, you can't beat it with a stick. ;> AND it'll save your more expensive saber blades for shows and demos.
Just my tuppence worth

I know this is an older thread, but I was poking around on tapplastics.com and I saw this; www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=158&it seems like it might be a more stable rob for dueling with. It wouldn't be a bright pretty color like the acrylic ones, but it would be very solid, and might not break as easily. So what does everyone think?

i want to get one of those myself because the lighter the blade, the more wieghtless the look when you coreograph a duel, for rotoscoping at least
