I was at a garage sale yesterday and I found this really cool looking napkin ring, like the kind that would hold a fabric napkin for a table setting, and it's perfect to use for part of a lightsaber hilt! It's made of silver with some engraving on it, and it looks pretty old and tarnished, the last of a set, I guess. But I wondered if anyone else has used napkin rings to make a hilt... they're the right size, most of them anyway, and they can almost always be found at garage sales, church flea markets, etc....
That thought also led me to wonder what other odd objects could be used besides the standard plumbing parts and bike handlebar grips.....

i used a shower head for my pommel also used footmans loops, or strap loops, to hold my emitter to the hilt i wonder how i would be able to make an accurate dooku handle, or a similar one, but still be able to use it in a duel?

Vaccuum cleaner wands (metal ones) seem to be what most curved ones are made from so far. Well, at least the two curved ones I've seen, mine and Tanzan's were vaccuum wands.
As far strange lightsaber components, I've used drive gears from photo processors and belt drive pieces from film projectors...even used a couple of bullet casings for "recharge ports" on one of mine.

Leda what type of bike handlebar grips can you use I assume you can use the ones like you buy at Walmart or at a bike shop for bicycles. I've seen tutorials that call for them, but I didn't make note of what type they were exactly. bullet casings... cool. I have a box of junk I saved over the years of stuff that could potentially be used for lightsaber parts. One cool brass part I saved is the lens and housing for the peephole of a door, like in an apartment or a hotel. Now I just need to put all those parts to use! Here's a pic with that brass piece, among other things!

Fun picture there! So far I've stuck with the basic hardware stuff (sink pipes, shower heads, flashlights and PVC pipes) but I've got a large bin of random things I've found and have yet to put to use, like older electronics and broken toys.

I also use parts from propane lanterns (for the guts of the lightsaber) as well as lightbulbs. In the past I used parts of pens and broken glass. I have heard of people using fishing rod handles and acessories, but I have never seen these.

Oh, one more thing...I don't know how many of you have tried this, but if you shine a laser pointer (red or green) into a piece of white quartz crystal (or any translucent material) it produces a bright auror/glow of the color of the laser...this by itself or coupled with lenses from a pocket magnifier or rifle scope produce a lovely crystal chamber effect.

Sorry, I just thought of something else. For cool tech components, try the toy department of your local store...I find the weapons that come with army men and robot soldiers look really cool if painted to look metalic, and make great additions to lighsaber components.

Here's a picture of that napkin ring.... I'll have to see how I can design the rest of it now. It looks weathered, so I couldn't use any shiny pipe... I'll have to find something beat up to use.

That's cool, I'll bet you could make a sink pipe work with it if you "polished" it with steel wool... if you could remove the chrome unevenly it would look nice and weathered, and probably match up great. Just a suggestion. That will make a great antique lookin saber!
