Ryan over at Random is SO friggin' awesome...I finally have my first metal saber thanks to him, and best of all, it's the RotS Anakin, so my Anakin costume is complete all but for the robe, which I'm building soon. Yayness! Just a few more touches, and hopefully my costume should be up to Assembly and/or Rebel Legion standards!
*crosses fingers* What? I like being part of a group. So beat me with a boffer already.

Really? On the FAQ it's pretty clear that they won't recreate an existing design that someone else has the copyright on, so I'm pretty surprized that he does it 'on the sly'... Either way, the quality of his work is fantastic, so I'm sure it will be a fantastic saber

He doesn't OFFICIALLY make replicas as commissions, but he does occassionally make them. This one was already made, it's a 95-98% exact replica stunt saber that he was planning to ell, so when I went to his place to talk about Legacy, he showed me the Anakin, because I brought up mention of a basic variation on it I had in mind, and I was like "Squee! Yoink! Will pick up blade and covertec when they come in!" I actually have an IOU on this thing, but since I'm a ten to fifteen minute drive for him, AND he has my phone number, he's giving me the benefit of the doubt. Plus, I get paid next Friday, so guess what my first stop after cashing the check will be... Pic I took last night. *goes to bounce around some more with his new saber* And I'm starting the cloak this weekend, hopefully. Yayness!

Thanks...I wish I had the equipment for doing it myself, so I could build the Legacy and have the right to fully claim it as mine...Oh, semi-related. Anyone have advice on how to check how much more work needs be done to an outfit to be up to Assembly standards for joining?

Well, I have written tutorials for both a Budget Graflex tube and Anakin's AotC saber, which require little more than a hacksaw, a rotary tool to use as an electric drill, and small hand-files, neither saber has to be machined to be reasonably accurate The best thing I can suggest for your costume, is to send a PM to Tanthos with clear pictures of your costume, and asking his opinion as to what (if anything) needs doing

Thanks on the costume stuff info. As for building my saber...I'm currently in a Min-wage "traning" program at Deseret, and I don't have ANY tools for building a saber at all, which is why I mostly depended on the toys until I came across Ryan.

No problem I understand the situation of limited income as much as anyone, but I can gaurantee that I paid less for my DIY Graflex than you have for your machined saber, and despite it involving little more than three pipes, a roll of duct tape and a hacksaw, it is quite passable as a saber...
