That's an even better idea As a thought, would it be possible (not to mention safe) to disassemble the driver down to it's bare components and insert those instead of a solid item? (That is assuming it is a solid item to start with, as I don't really know ) I attempted that...unfortunately, it's all set in resin block with only the power wires sticking out of it.

If I had a dremel and a second one just in cast, I'd consider it. cutting off the bits of the black plastic shell was pretty hard to start with. But the inner resin is black, which makes it hard to estimate.

I know what you mean, it's certainly a big risk if you can't gaurantee where the 'insides' are placed

Ahh, so will you be able to install the EL equipment in yours? I've never made a saber that had electronics (Or even been suitable to hold a duelling rod) as I prefer them to be 'complete' when worn on the belt, if that makes any sense? If you can't install the EL driver in yours, might you construct a new saber but continue to modify your current one? Really, the "WOW" effect is even more there when you have the lighted blade... Its more work, but its all worth it.

I don't have anyone to duel against with it, nor do I go to conventions (and even if I did, I wouldn't want to carry a 3 ft blade around with me) I'm happy to just have hilts for costume wear (with an emitter more accurate to the movies than a 1/4 inch hole in the end) and rotoscope the blade in later if need be

If I had more opportunity to duel, then I probably would make a saber with a blade, but as it is, rotoscoping is enough for me Take Qui-Gon's saber for example: When deactivated, the blade projection plate had only a small hole in the very center, not a 1/4 inch one By having a saber made like that, I can rotoscope the blade for a picture, yet still have a saber with an emitter more in keeping with the 'Hero' props

I more or less took on the challenge of making the EL sabers just to find out if I could.
At CIII, I was carrying my Solinbeb saber as the hero prop, but I had a threaded copper nipple built into the emitter so that I could screw on a dueling/stand in blade if I wanted to rotoscope. But after seeing instructions on how to make the EL, I had to give it a try, so I dismantled my saber and rebuilt it with the EL components built in.

I think of it pretty much like Solinbeb... its a challenge, and its rewarding afterward.
I barely duel with mine, by lack of other people with a saber that can witstand dueling, but I enjoy playing with it nonetheless.
