Okay so i finally got my Dremel for christmas and have begun on my what i like to call "prepy saber" Since it will be the one used on my jedi costume and the best looking one. Im stuck on what i want for the grip. It resembles Anakins(the emitter and the length) but has my own twist to it. I don't really want to order Blastechs grip because it will look too anakinishy, so ive noticed on alot of sabers people get PVC and paint it black , then install it on the out side, what size PVC pipe would i need to fit over a basic 1 1/2 inch plumbing tube? However if that doesn't work out i could always do the grip from yellow boxes saber style 4 with the radioshack tubing protruding from cutouts.

The PVC that fits over the 1 1/2 inch sink pipe is 1 1/4" PVC, 160 psi rated. You can find grip patterns on Big Yellow Box

it fits very nicely too... you can also get the spray on black "Plasti-Dip". it works very well and covers the pipe with a black rubber coating so the grip "feels" like a grip and not a pipe.

Very interesting....when you say psi rated does the psi matter, and what the heck is psi?!

its a pressure rating for the pipe. The higher the rating the stronger (and thicker) the pipe. 160 psi is just the right thickness to be tough and rigid for a grip but you can still just squeeze it a bit and see it bend. much thicker and it wouldn't look right...IMHO.

oh okay because i have some 1 1/4 pvc pipe but the thickness prevents it from going on. 160 psi, gotcha....

I don't know around your area, but here in Montreal, I have yet to find the proper PVC piping. I have some that are close, but nothing with perfect match. I gave up trying.

Now about the blastech grip, i might still get that so does anyone know from experience how durable it is? I mean with the 3mm tape does it stay on very well?

wipwe blades from an auto parts store may do just as well....there was a tutorial around here on how to use them...........

When I made my first saber I used wiper blades. The flexible rubber blade is slid into a hard plastic backing. I took out the flexible rubber and cut the hard backing to size. I found this to make a great "grip" on my saber handle. I used double sided tape to attatch it to the hilt. Depending on how big a round your handle is the tape adds a little bit of thickness to the grip area which I needed.
