I was looking on ebay, and I noticed that the MR sabers have dropped a bit in price for the Christmas season, I was thinking about contemplating buying an epIII Obi Wan for my costume... they're going for around US$270. Opinions, anyone?

Wow, they have certainly dropped a lot in price. My personal opinion though is that they are still too expensive for my tastes. Especially if I am going to get boots. Haha.

1) Can you get that kind of a deal elsewhere, or will you be able to get this kind of deal again? 2) Do you have the funds? 3) Will you enjoy it to the fullest? 4) Are you buying it to have one or because of the deal?
These are the questions I use when I run into a deal. It's helped at least 50 times.

Hmmm... well;
1)No idea 2)Yeps 3)Most likely 4)Well I've wanted it for ages but havent been able to justify it because of the price.
So where does that leave me? Heh heh. I'll see what happens.

Here's my two cents:
I come across the same situation from time to time- I have the opportunity to purchase something I've wanted for a long time for a discounted (but still relatively expensive) price.
Unless I absolutely have no way of paying for it- I always go for it! ;D
Just recently I won a Master Replicas Star Trek communicator for $198. This is over $100 less than what they originally sold for from MR, and $150 to $200 less than what they go for on Ebay. The good price was the fact that it has no paperwork, and was a display model. But all I was interested in was having an MR communicator for my display case.
Do I have $198 right now? No; I put it on credit (and will worry about paying it off later).
Will I have the chance to get an MR communicator for this price again? I am convinced that I won't.
So I say go for it! These sabers seem to only go up in value! ;D

1) If you don't know, don't wait for the future. 2) Sound like a reason to get it 3) Good enough for me 4) Sounds like a " I want it for what it is" in a roundabout sorta way.
So Seda, GO GET IT MAN!

LOL.. Something like that I wouldn't re-sell unless I had NO other choice.. and my situation would have to be pretty dire to do that.

Sorry I only saw this thread now(been off line for the past week). If I saw it earlier I'd have said 'NO' to getting it for costuming purposes, but 'YES' for display purposes.
I never wear my MR sabers on my costume, because I'll be soooo conscious about where it is ALL the time due to its high price...people whould want to look at it, play with it, and you have to constantly keep an eye on its whereabouts and that totally spoils my mood for having fun in my costume. Doesn't help that I personally know a few guys who lost their MR saber while out and about in their costume. One of them literally had his MR saber snatched from his hand while in a crowd and he didn't even know who was it that took it.
Sorry for being so negative but that's my 2 cents...

Nah thats about right! I'm gonna keep the MR saber as part of my costume display (I have a mannequin in a seperate room) and for photos such as my TJA membership application, and use my rots converted parks obi wan when I wear the costume out somewhere.

They're lots of fun. I bought mine at Celebration III and took on all comers in the display room late on Sunday. It was great.

Well my MR came in the mail today so heres my spiel; The first thing I noticed was that it had cool packaging heh heh. After the MR FX, I thought it would be a bit corny... but the black box is very subtle and understated, and unpacking it is like going through a maze of boxes in boxes, which only adds to the excitement! My initial impression of the saber was that it is REALLY heavy - this thing is like a little brick. It's got magnificent chrome (not very screen accurate, but it does look stunning) but I thought it was a bit small. Since its 1:1 scale from Lucasfilm I guess this was how the real prop was, but it still seems a bit thin for a lightsaber (I've been holding my Parks usk obi for too long I think.) Overall the whole thing just reeks of quality, and I'm glad I got it, even if it does make all my other sabers look cheap in comparison Pics to come soon.

Can't wait to see the pics Regarding your comment about it being a bit thin... From what I understand, Ewan's prop was actually made to a thinner diameter to Alec's so it would be better suited for the more intricate duels than in the originals, which is why it would seem thinner than what you're used to, because it is genuinely supposed to be ;D I'm actually planning on making a similar lightsaber to that design, as I found a piece of piping from a hardware store that matches the overall shape (of Luke's upper grip) very well. I don't think it'll be replacing my curved saber, just a little project to keep me amused. I did consider attatching that style upper-grip/emmiter section onto a curved hilt like mine, but the photoshop mockup looked pretty bad, so I'll be sticking more closely to the original design (but still no activation box )

Try it out Tanzan, I can't wait to see the result of any future projects you indulge in Here's a few teaser pics of the saber on my costume: And, a worthy addition to the collection: I should be getting a proper digital camera soon, I'll post good pics when I can.
