believe it or not, some wide electrical tape, found it in my basement. i was taping something and noticed it tended to wrinkle and crease like that. thought it might look good as a grip so i tried it.

I was haveing fun guessing, I thought electrical tape, but it looked to thick. plus I see the plastic collars for the end of the grips. Id like to see whats next for it. It really dosent look bad, next time id try some grip tape, like they use on tennis rackets or golf clubs. Reminds me of a katana wrap or the leather rap on conans sword. Good start I think.

yeah the collars are visible but i kinda like that. its not meant to be a really decent grip, this saber is just going to be a prop one to hang off my belt.

Dont worry about the collars, looks fine. Prop or not, still, make it the best dang prop you can. I for one like seeing creative ways to make saber parts. Especially cheap ways,

It looks like its on the way to being pretty cool to me. My advice is to put as much into it as possible. Try not to cut corners when making it for the sake of an "easy" process. You'll be far happier (and prouder) in the end!

Skateboard grip... isn't that like sandpaper? Would hurt a bit maybe?

I was wondering about that, too, Leda.

If the grip has been used a bit it would actually be pretty comfortable. Easy to stick on, too
