Personally, I prefer the first design to the second. Very thin wiperblade grips can look really nice (like Master Windu's saber) if they're done properly As for covertec placement... If going with grips like Master Windu's saber, place the covertec at the very end of the grips and inline with the activator. If they're going to be wider and spaced out more like Anakin's saber, it should be placed mid-way down the grips (between two grips) If you're using an activation box, then it should be placed on the right hand side of the saber (under the tips of your fingers) so the saber will sit flat on your belt (although it will twist slightly when drawing, an issue I go into greater depth in on page 3 of the thread for Ral Miran's saber I love the idea of recessed brass pieces, the saber should look really nice when you're finished

For your Covertec knob placement, it depends on how high you want it to ride on your belt and what side you want showing when it's on it.
My Covertech knob on my Parks Fusion is situated in such a spot that my left pinky goes on top when I'm gripping it two-handed. During some dueling practice once, I got hit on that finger and it was quite painful, more so that it would have been had it only been on the saber grip itself.
So you might also want to think about where it will be in relation to your hand when you grip it. Darn! Someone beat me to it! Guess I'm posting too slowly.

I like the design, but I honestly don't know how you are going to accomplish the slanted O-rings. They aren't going to want to stay that way, they are going to want to straighten themselves. I don't even know if it would work if you had grooves cut into the hilt for them or not. You'd probably have to glue them or something.
That's been bothering me since you posted the slanted O-ring design.
I would love to see you make it work, I just don't know how it would. Do you have any ideas how that would work? Get some O-rings and play with them, if you haven't already. You'll see what I mean.

I like it, just one thing...where's the convertech man? Anywho...the only thing I would change if I were you, and this is just personal preference, I would elimanate one of the buttons at the top or keep the button and move the recharge port to the bottom, so yours saber details are grouped in twos...ya know...2 things at the top...two things in the middle, and two things near the bottom

It's Covertech, silly! Not convertech! I've seen you spell it that way at least twice now, so I had to call you on it. lol

I was originally trying to come up with a design to submit to RandomSabers.....figured they could work out the grip issue. Perhaps using o-rings that were slightly larger? or an insert with the o-rings vertical and slanted cuts in the outer hilt? I'm not set on the slant...just thought it looked nicer than vertical.
still unsure how to place the covertech knob in relation to everything else........
I can see the grouping idea....need to look at that and see how it fits together.

I am going to call all of you on it - its Covertec, not Covertech or Convertech the slanted grips will be a challenge I think......maybe do a textured knurling, carved leather ala Mace Ep2 & Ep3, or Dooku
