So here's the deal, I'm having a custom hilt built at randomsabers.com, and I just wanted to know what the esteemed Jedis here thought about that particular site and their product. I've named my hilt the Dacian Falx after an ancient Celtic blade (not that the Celts exist in the Star Wars Universe...) and here's the CAD I've gotten back from Ryan at Random Sabers So, what do you guys think?

Its always hard to tell from CAD drawings Looks pretty good though, very streamlined

I am just curious have you heard from the guys at random sabers? My saber was supposed to be done for the movie premeire, the date got pushed back twice. Bought it in Feb, paid it in full when a week before work was supposed to begin so I wouldnt hold up the process that was the middle of april, emailed them and havent heard from them. Its paid for and everything, but still no saber and no contact. I know people have had good experiences with, eventually I am sure I will hear from them, but that is just my two dactaries take it for what its worth! Its hard to put out money on a project and not hear or see anything come back!

It takes about a week to get a response to any emails I have sent, so instead of being a couple of days process so far it's been close to three weeks. He is apparently having trouble with his hosting and email server. Oddly enough I mentioned in an email that I run a webhosting company and would be happy to help him out, but he just ignored that part of my email. Oh well, I tried.
I'll be using paypal with a VISA card to pay, so if he does decide to drop off the face of the planet, I'm sure I'll be able to recover most of my money....
But, I'm in no real hurry (I don't have a costume yet, and I really only NEED it by Halloween--since I've never even gone to a convention), so I'll be patient with him.
Has anyone here actually bought a saber and received it? They look like they'd be great quality, but I didn't know if anyone had actually held one and could comment on it...

The only thing you might want to change on the sabre design from a practical point of veiw is the covertec placement angle.
At the moment with it following the curve it will make the sabre stick out from your body which wont be the most practical or comfy of outcomes. Id make it perpendicular to the main line of the body.
Simple milling of a slight flat spot big enough for the covertec or angling the bottom of the covetec itself will work a charm.

I really like the design, what kind of finish would it have though, and would it have more than one color or finish?

Actually the whole placement of the covertec I thought would be sorta painful to hold and duel with. So I think I'm gonna move it right below the emiter--basically on the opposite side from that oval with the two buttons in it. That will solve the angle problem as well.
I totally forgot to mention the finish--it's going to be a mirrored finish, and the grooves are going to be filled in with an orange epoxy.

I kinda like it. The curviness is hot.

Yes if you move the covertec up to the front that will solve that problem nicely. The curved hilt and the band with the holes is reminiscent of the Leia last command sabre.

I'd never seen that saber before. Yes the sabers are similar.
I really like the curviness, and hopefully it will sit easier in my hand than a straight blade. I'm contemplating wrapping the handle in leather strips when I get it sorta like what A'Sharad Hett did to his father's saber after he inherited it... but maybe not. Or, maybe I'll do it on certain occasions... I dunno...

Hey it looks great! That didnt take too long to come through. The orange is really interesting, and I especially like how the emitter turned out.

Yeah, I'm sorta an orange freak. The blade is orange too (even though the pic shows a yellow). My jedi costume (when I finally get it made) will be mostly the same colors as normal, but with the obi and tabbards in a burnt orange color...
