what are you confused on? If you have a specific question, I can try to answer it.
The short answer from that, if we get 10 orders for kits, you can have a Obi saber for $75, you are not going to find an all metal saber like this for that price anywhere. I know I have an all metal Obi that I built from RE parts, and I spent $300 easy on it, lets not talk the MR sabers that fetch more than that. This same Obi saber I am offering to help get is on Ebay for $200 or so, $75 still sounds cheaper to me
The only cheaper alternative is resin, and I have not seen a good resin cast Obi saber in quite a while. Every kit I have seen needs major work to clean up the casting, paint, and then epoxy for a final assembly.
Let me know what else you have questions on - remember, in the end, you get what you pay for. Personally, I want a metal saber that is going to last for many years to come

You could get close for cheap with a little time. I'm working on one now, and my total expenses should run under $25. I'm using a metal dowl (threaded), metal washers with rubber washers for spacers (taking the place of the grenade handle), the metal light fixtures out of 3 dollar tree flash lights, two nuts, one short piece of plumbing pipe (chrome), two hose clamps with a piece of copper striping (for the activation matrix), a sink faucet handle, one sheet of foam rubber (self adhesive), one box of "acrylic water," and a cell phone clip. I don't have complete instructions or pictures...but I think everything is fairly self explanatory if you have all the parts and know what you want it to look like.

Maybe I should qualify my posts - in my opinion, $75 is cheap for a saber. Some may consider it expensive so a thread like this is going to have differing opinions. Can you find stuff cheaper? Sure, just have a look around. In a quick search on Ebay I found a couple of the Parks Obi's (1 for a starting bid of $99 and 1 for a BIN of $185), a couple MR (1 was up over $400, and that was a weathered version), and I think 1 resin which was part of a 3 saber set (just listed last night so I am not sure if the bidding has gone up) Personally, I have no artistic talent and would not be able to work a resin saber or a stack of washers into a finished saber. In my opinion, if you want a saber to last then you want metal. Dave |

when i got my tattoo there was a sign hanging up that said " a good tattoo is not cheap and a cheap tattoo is not good" that should give you any idea of how things go. i certainly along with everyone else would love to have our favorite lightsabers be "cheap" however to get a "good" lightsaber, you will have to fork over some $$$. i did make my own that i was quite impressed with. it is an original design and still cost about 50.00

I honestly don't know how accurate that price is at this point - when was the tutorial last updated?
If you want a blade, then you need to plan ahead. I am not sure the Obi would be a good one for a blade - of course, I don't have one set up to try so I can't be sure. I do know the one we are getting is hollow, so you might be able to get a blade into the neck, depending on how big it is.
Maybe someone that already owns one of the Obi's can speak up.....

It may hold a blade, but that may also be a weak point. Just something to keep in mind about the Obi saber. I own 2 of the "skinny neck" sabers, 1 ANH Obi and 1 ROTJ Luke, I have no desire to weild either with a blade. That doesn't mean that I won't get the Parks saber in and see how a blade fits, it just wouldn't be my choice as a dueling saber  Dave Yeah I can see why an Obi wouldn't support a blade because of that really skinny part between the admitter and the main handle. |

I was thinking about making a blade for an Obi saber, I was thinking about welding a light steel blade to a seperate emitter head and having them interchangable. It could have some problems, what with the blade only being secured at the very end (will probably bend or break)
If I ever try it I'll let people know.

No pics, pieces still laying in box or a few (the washers) still on the shelf, waiting once again for payday...but I went ahead and added up all my costs, I was a little off, my final should be just at $27. I'm also working on 3 other sabers at the moment (one for a friend who graduated, and a set of matching for my padawan and I). I'll have pics of them all when I have them done...I will take pictures in stages for the Obi saber, I will try to do a tutorial.

I'm not sure what you're looking for with the emitter, but perhaps you could look at candleholders? Now, I've never tried this myself, but I've wondered if the odd selections of candleholders at thrift stores or garage sales might make usable and unique lightsaber parts. Otherwise, try looking at the kitchen tools aisle for round things that might work.
