Thanks, but it's really not a BYB saber. I only got the inspiration for the grips from that site. The saber is an original design.
Some people think it looks kinda "Vaderish". Why? Just because it has a black emitter shroud?
Carving the grips and emitter shroud out of PVC were what took the longest to do when constructing this saber.

very nice job. I always like the idea of light daggers, I mean they easy to make, and Jedi could really use them, I mean how many times in all 6 movies did Jedi and Sith get their light sabers either knocked out of their hands or have the hand with the saber get cut off. Seriously you could hide a little light dagger in your boot. But very good sabers, I wish I could make a light saber of my own design that could be EL ready, because I can't make the EL blades, nor do I have the knowledge of putting electronics in sabers.
(maybe I should take that electric class next year.... hmmmm)
MTFBWY............ (>^_^)> KIRBY SAYS SO.. lol

Heres my latest. Just wanted to show this off :- www.spartandesign.co.uk/pictures/sabretest2.jpg www.spartandesign.co.uk/pictures/sabretest3.jpg Its the first fruits of having my own lathe Just playing around to get used to it and what better project than a new sabre. This one has one of Corbins Luxeon led drivers in there. It still needs a proper knurled thumbscrew to lock the blade in, and as soon as I find a supplier I'll fit one. So if anyone knows somewhere preferably UK based to get them from that would be great. Its turned out fairly well I think. Im also planning on turning out a few practice sabres and customs soon that can hold a 25mm blade and they should be able to fit either the led lighting or even good old EL electronics in there too as an option or just use them without. The lathe will also come in handy for the fleet blaster project currently underway and probably many other projects in the future.

Jeffrek, whats a "lathe"? Is that like CNC machining?

What dont they do shop classes anymore at schools ? A lathe is used to profile tubular metal and a milling machine is used to cut lengthwise (ie grooves into stuff). All controlled by hand. A lathe allows you to cut into and along the metal while its spinning at high speed, you can profile, cut tapers, bore out holes (to mount blades into) etc. Its probably the single most useful tool for machineing sabres (after a dremel ) CNC stands for computer numerically controlled, and is the process of putting the function of a piece of machinery under the control of the computer. You can get cnc versions of both lathes and milling machines but nowadays a 'standard' cnc machine will have control of all 4 axis of movement so can operate as both a lathe and mill. A full 4 axis machine also costs a huge amount of money.

Wow. That brings back memories....man what I could do with a good lathe....the sabers one could make!......man you can get a mirror polish whith as many grooves, knurls, tapers, flares, flanges, as you want......I miss shop class...though it was 20+ years ago.

What dont they do shop classes anymore at schools ? They do... at least in my local district. I even asked my son if he knew the teacher well enough to ask him to cut down my saber for me, but he didn't. He never took metal-shop.
