I'm in the UK, and I'm having my first go at making a saber. It's a variant on Big Yellow Box's style 3, with a hint of style 6. Here's the prototype made from stuff lying around the garage. Soon I'll post a picture of my hand-drawn design. I won't be able to start properly for a few weeks, but once I do I will post some work-in progress pictures. I'll also list places that I get my parts from, since they seem to be harder to get hold of over here. Edit: the prototype took about 2 hours to make using nothing but a hacksaw, some 1.25" aluminum tube and some 1.5" PVC tube that I had lyting around. I also had some bendy plastic pipe, that's the black stuff I've used for a grip. I used paper to "pad" the gap where the PVC was put over the aluminium, and masking tape to hold it all in place.

Very good! It's amazing what one can do with stuff laying around the garage!

here's the design that I'm working from. I haven't decided exactly what I'm using for the grip, or any of the buttons/sockets etc, and it's very much subject to change depending on what parts I can find. The "thin" part of the hilt will be 1.25", and the wider parts 1.5".

That is a nice design, will you be putting any electronics in the hilt, like LEDs ?

I don't think so. Since it's my first attempt I thought I'd keep it simple, rather than trying to make it complicated and making a mess of it. I think I''m going to make it so it can accomodate a simple blade, just PVC pipe or something, and make something to cover the hole in the emitter when the blade isn't in.

It'll be interesting to see the end results, it definitley looks like you've got a solid design idea you're working too Best of luck with the project

Well, exams finally out of the way, and with a little help from my dad with cutting the metal tube, here's the work in progress: Still to do: > Paint the white bits silver, except the emitter part which will be black > Stick the rubber wiper blades on > Find some O-Rings to go in between the white bits > Add the activator button, blade length adjuster and belt clip > Glue everything in place

I do hope that you are going to also sand the edges of the plastic parts before you paint them! You didn't put that on your list.

I do hope that you are going to also sand the edges of the plastic parts before you paint them! Yeah definitely do that. I didn't do it on mine and the paint is coming off.
