sorry for lack of response but i made an error that ruined that saber so it is out for now, ive been out working on a boaut dock for the summer and i lived on a camp in missouri that had limited computer access so thats my story as of yet, it was going to look pretty good i think though
if anyone has any ideas im more than accepting them and i will try to bring them to life

That's a shame, I was really looking forward to seeing the finished article Don't let it put you off though, my first attempt at a curved saber was a complete disaster, but it taught me what I needed to know that V.2 came out absolutely perfect. Give it another go, you won't make the same mistake twice

ok i had anew idea for this saber when i was looking through some sites on hiking staffs i came a across an irish walking stick called a Shillelagh, some are straight with a huge knob on one end and some are very knotty and knarly all the way throught the wood, i think one of the extremely knarly ones that was a little thicker than normal would make a good wookiee hilt

Sounds good. I'm really interested to see what you've done so far, or the finished article, as I love the idea of a wooden saber. I've had the idea of doing one for a while, but never really had a suitable design in mind.

if i cant find what im looking for for either a resonable price, or free along a river theni might make a larger than normal metal saber and do the wood painting effect on some plastic parts OR add wood somewhere into the design, the only problem with wood is that its kind of soft (at least most of it is) for what im trying to do

or good woodtone contact paper for use on a metal saber....though I would think that even a Wookie would make a metal saber since it needs to house the power cell, electronics, crystals, and be able to shield it all, etc. It would need to be an exotic wood to handle all that. I think the Wookie Sabers would be stylistically different than "normal", perhaps utilizing grips of woven grasses, bark, or hair (or perhaps a wooden overlay) and having a distinctive emitter assembly.
also given the average wookie height I would think their sabers would be at least 14" and perhaps as much as 16".

Humm given that Wookies are craftsbeings, engraving the hilt with designswould fit well. A good thing to make it distinctive is a leather thong with teeth hanging off it maybe from a battle with a kataran on Kasshyyk. Or the belt the saber hanmgs from is made from the Syren plant fibers he or she would've needed to procure as a rite of passage/bravery. All of this fits with the species culture and makes the sabre very distinvily Kassyyykian.:-D

thats exactly what im talking about, they generally are good with things electronic, but are also very honor bound, and have a lot of pride, the save things like teeth from battles and stuff, i chose wood because the only other wookiee jedi i know of besides lowbacca, Tyvokka , hasa wooden saber, this is a difficult design and i ave quitea few ideas for it just dont know what i wantt o scrap or not, i noticed in the ROTS visual dictionary alot most of the wookiee weapons apeared to be bronze, or copperish, and had jadelike stones in them - there so many good idea for this though i want it to be a good one, i agree though that it will be ornamental or could have things likea trandoshan skin grip with teeth hanging from cloth bands

What you need, is some hard wood Some California Redwood would be nice for a Wookie saber... You could always drill into it and insert a metal rod to give it weight.... like they do with Pinecar racers.

It sounds really nice though I liked the bit in the ROTS Visual Dictionary that said: "The Wookiee language contains over 150 words for wood, many of them devoted to grain, moisture content, and factors that can influence warping, twisting and checking. Shipboard logs cite instances of Wookiees effecting temporary repairs of startship drives using pieces of wood." If I recall, the Innuit have several different words for 'snow', all relating to it's texture, hardness etc

The Inuit have 32 words for different types of snow, ie Hero powder, champagne powder, crud, icy, wet, slushy, etc. But I don't know any of the translations.

Nice find on E-bay, Seda!
I'm not sure how hard redwood is, but it's very wild looking... twisted, knotty... It's the stuff they make all those wild looking coffee tables out of...
