I've just completed my new lightsaber. It is based on my old favorite, and I'm quite fond of this new one. I went a little further than usual, and constructed a crystal chamber with lighted crystals. This chamber is removable to allow viewing of the crystals. The saber is made from stainless steel and brass. Some found parts were used (the activation switch, crystals, belt clip button, and pommel). It's viewable on my profile at the main site, or here... Hope you guys like it... ~Kai Rhann

That's great Kai ! One of the best sabers I've ever seen - and you made it! I hope you enjoy your new saber.

Thanks everyone. I sincerely appreciate the kind comments.
Johann Shinobi-- The grip is simple bandsaw work: the curved cutout in the outer casing, as well as the banded cuts in the next layer were done with a band saw (cleaned up with a belt sander and dremel and jewler's files later).
As most of my sabers this one is layered: the outer casing is stainless and has the curved cutout; the next layer is the grip casing, also of stainless and has the grip cuts; the next layer is brass, and shows through the grip cuts. This all adds up to a good weight at about 1.75lbs (did my best to keep it light, but with the materials involved it wasn't easy). Most of my sabers are 1lb to 1.5lbs.
The crystal chamber is thin steel pipe, cutouts were done with a dremel and cleaned with a jewler's file...
Thanks again, all, for the words of praise...

As to weight: I find this one to be very nice. I like good heft to my lightsabers. I like it to feel like a weapon. Aluminum is okay, but I prefer to work in steel.
On to the crystals. Should a Jedi reveal such secrets? Just where did I get those Agedan Crystals?...Okay, okay, I've never been one to keep secrets. I like to help as much and share as much as I can. The primary crystal is very simple: it's from a keychain that I found at Target. The crystal has a high intensity blue LED which is switched on by twisting the crystal while holding the base. I simply removed the crystal from the keychain to use as part of the saber. I did coat the crystal with some stained glass window paint from Michael's Arts and Crafts (color: Blue Diamond) so that when it is "off" it is still blue (as the crystal from the keychain is clear when unlit). The "focussing" crystal is simply a little crystal from an assorted bag of "rinestone" type crystals, with the silver backing removed.
Both crystals are in contact, so the "primary" crystal lights the "focussing" crystal...

I see.How much is a keychain with Agedan crystals ?do Agedan crystals come in orange ,or do I have to get stained glass window paint( color:orange)from micheal's arts & crafts?

As I recall, the keychain wasn't very much (under $5). Since the LED is blue (emitting blue light) I doubt you'd get the color you want by painting the crystal. The stained glass paint comes in a full range of colors (as painting glass windows would call for).
However, you may be able to change out the blue LED with a clear LED, and then paint the crystal to your liking. Colored LED's are, of course available, but I don't know the color range. I don't see that orange would be a problem, though. And, by the way, the bags of decorative crystals (which came from Michael's) had many colors (blue, green, red, purple, clear, yellow, orange...) so that part would be no problem if you went that route.

Very elegant. And the idea of making a chamber with the crystal is just fantastic.

Very very nice work Kai, I like it. Is that crystal lit by a blue led by any chance ?
Nice clean lines, I always like sabres that are like that, and the silver/brass combination is my favourite looking combo too (I used it on mine).
