...So to renew his kids' faith in santa, this year while they were at church it was me who put out the presents. I built an elaborate pyramid out of the boxes and placed a small note on the very top, written in an uncommon script font and printed on antiqued parchment paper, rolled up and sealed with red wax. Here's what it said: (contains roman catholic phraseology) To Emily, Sylvia, Amanda, Michael, and Artemis,
Sometimes we forget how wonderfully magical Christmas is.
Yes, I am still here. I have not existed in body for over fifteen hundred years, but by the blessing and grace of God, whose coming to live among men is celebrated this very evening, I have been allowed to continue doing the thing that I love. Whether you believe or disbelieve, it doesn't make this sack any lighter. ;-)
Never stop believing, and never forget that through Almighty God, all things are possible.
May God bless you all, and may you always be happy.
~Nicholas of Myra Anno Domini MMVIThat's very touching Koda. I think I will do that for my family next year. I like the idea of the scroll. My youngest is 12, and we were all in on the gifts this year, but that's a great reminder of why we still do this.

I enjoyed this thread last year, so I'm "bumping" it for our newcomers. (or for those of us who want to enjoy it again.... :-))

All my traditions have been shot clear into a Corellian hell....
We used to open packages Christmas Eve, stockings on Christmas morning... my mom would make Christmas dinner, either a turkey or a ham.... either way the house smelled good all day...
My sister would take me out to see Christmas lights... we'd get hot chocolate at Foster Freeze with a dollop of ice cream in it...
Now the family is scattered all over, its too far to my mom's for dinner and she's too old to cook it, we have no money for presents for each other, and my daughter in law insists on presents on Christmas Morning, which really doesn't matter since I'm not with the kids this year anyway....
My dad used to hang lights from the eaves of the house and the tail end wrapped around the back a shone into my bedroom window...
If it only were 40 years ago... {sigh}

We got a Christmas tree about mid-December, go gift-shopping usually at the last minute on Christmas Eve, hang lights and stockings, wake up early Christmas morning and have the fruit, nuts, and cookies we had in our stockings for breakfast. Stockings always came first! Mom and Dad insisted that we wake them up before we open any presents. Before we opened anything, Dad would always read the Christmas story from the Bible. After presents came cooking Christmas dinner, watching one or two Christmas movies, and reminiscing on Christmases past. The tree stayed up until New Years, and of course we always watched the Rose Parade despite getting almost no sleep the previous night. *sigh* I miss those days. The only presents under the tree this year are for Joseph, my two year old nephew. I really dson't mind that I didn't get anything. I like wrapping presents much better than unwrapping anyway, and besides. now that we're finally in a house, there's nothing more I could ask for.

We have a book called "The 24 Days of Christmas" which features nice Christmas stories. We read one each night in December up until Christmas.
Of course we also do the regular fare: leave milk and cookies out for Santa (and carrots for the reindeer, or oatmeal), shop (didn't go to the mall at all this year), wrap, check NORAD Santa on Christmas Eve, etc

Funny you should mention NORAD.... I know my neice has been doing that for years... but somehow.... last night it occured to me how very wrong it is to track the "big guy" on the internet... being a child of Christmas 1950's style.... I am just saddened at what Christmas has become... sorry guys... I really have no use for Christmas anymore.... bah... humbug! I'm going back into the basement and work on my projects...

Never did that with NORAD... but it's just a sign of the information age, I think. I see it with my kids every day. I wasn't in the Christmas spirit until the kids arrived home from college. Then suddenly, I was happy and into it. Just in time for last minute shopping!
