Don't miss this! The History Channel will premiere a special tonight at 9pm eastern time called Star Trek: Beyond the Final Frontier For forty years Star Trek has engrossed our imaginations and sent us on voyages across the galaxy. Through ten films and five series this entertainment juggernaut has become a pop culture icon and a window to our society. We will look at the impact that Star Trek has had on fans around the world. From the conventions in Europe and Las Vegas to the billionaire collector who scours the world for memorabilia, we will try to find out just what it is about this supposedly "silly" series that has meant so much to so many. Leonard Nimoy hosts. www.history.com/schedule.do?action=daily&start=1171933200000&getFullDay=trueThere are also other interesting ST programs on leading up to and following the special, including: Modern Marvels: Star Trek Tech and How William Shatner Changed the World

That's for the info. I'm off work today so am in time to set the Tivo to record all three, though Beyond the Final Frontier will tape at 1am so as not to conflict with Heros!

Thanks, Leda!! I remember watching the original series, before it was ever in syndication. ;D
I had a terrible crush on Mr. Spock (well, terrible for an 8 year old...)

There are websites for that, ya know... ;D Yeah I remember the original when my dad watched it. I grew up with it too. I'm watching this... and William Shatner is wearing socks with sandals. He's quite the fashion trendsetter, no?

Me, too, though I was in high school. I remember being really annoyed that I had to go to Catechism (Catholic religious education) on the night that Star Trek aired one year. There was no such thing as vhs tape then, let alone Tivo!

I'll have to check the Seattle Science Fiction museum as that's where most of his Star Trek collection is kept....he bought and now displays the original Captain's chair as well as a lot of other cool stuff. It's nice I can go visit any time I want!

Good show. I can't believe that Enterprise model went for $500,000.! Amazing! That's like buying 2 houses! Well, one house, depending on where you live! How about 4? OK, I live in a bad neighborhood... Did you notice the estimate in the auction catalog? I think it was something like $8K-$12K. That was also the estimate for the Klingon Bird of Prey, which went for $260K. It would be great to know where the models went -- I hope they wind up on display. Along with the models (which hubby liked best), I loved the commentary on the costumes, especially everyone's complaint about "no pockets" and the way Picard would yank on his shirt to get the wrinkles out. I guess costume problems are "universal" (pun intended...) I was also very interested in the girl who bought Picard's fencing gear, since I'm now addicted to that sport. It was a very enjoyable show, and many thanks for telling us! P. S. Kai and Leda, I watched the original Star Trek with my dad, and my mom would come in and tap her foot and tell us we should stop watching "that silly show". You can imagine her comment recently when she stopped by my office and saw a picture of me in my Jedi Halloween costume, complete with robe and glowing saber. ;D

I was chuckling through that costume problems part.... the spandex costumes... lol! And Kryy, I thought of you when I saw that woman who bought the fencing gear!
