Okay, finances are quite tight this year and I have no idea what to do for Christmas. I can't knit or swing a hammer without hurting myself, so... Any suggestions?

Last year my wife and I compiled a CD of Worship music songs from many cds we own. I made sure to include all album info so when it is played in a PC they can see it. That way if they like a particular song or group they know which album to buy.
Then I designed a cd label and jewel case inserts along the theme and printed then on labels we bought. I downloaded a free trial of Labelmaker from the internet (might buy it this year as it works with all the label formats available). It was a bit labor intensive as I burned the discs slowly to maximize quality and ensure they would play in home cd players, cars, discmans, etc.
All together it cost us about $45.00 to make about 30 CDs. Everyone loved them, It as tons of fun, and very affordable.

Friends of ours do that! For the past 3 years they've sent CDs as Christmas cards, and it's great! They've compiled a selection of holiday tunes and burnt them on cds. I look forward to their new cd every year!
You could also do Christmas cookies... I did that when we were tight. People enjoy that too!

You could also do Christmas cookies... I did that when we were tight. People enjoy that too! I did that last year. I made 2 types -- a traditional brown sugar and butter type with nuts (recipe from the 1930's) and a French-style chocolate shortbread. These were the kind you make ahead, roll up in logs in wax paper and put in the freezer. So I paced myself making the actual batches all through December. I got up early on Christmas Eve day and did "slice and bake" for HOURS. Really all you need is 2 sheet pans from Sam's ($10 for 2), a cooling rack, and a roll of parchment paper. Then I put the cookies in cello bags ("loot bags") from the dollar store and tied with pretty ribbon. Unfortunately, I think people may be expecting them again this year.... uh oh, I may have set an unintentional precedent...

Also, the nice thing about cookies is that, due to the high butter content, they can be frozen and enjoyed later if people are sick of eating sweets during the holidays.
I know it's hard to imagine, but it DOES happen....

Hmm...pretty good ideas so far. I think I'll jump on the cookie idea, for one.

I used to do cookies. I would make like 10 dozen and hand them out. I may have to do that this year if I can find the time

Cookies are fun. I have this 3d cookie tree mold--- it consists of 8 cookie cutter stars that are progressively smaller, and you bake the cookies and then stack them on top of each other, gluing them together with frosting. Then you can decorate it with whatever you want.

I got cookies one year from a friend. She put them in a smallish tin with handles that she bought from a dollar store. It closed tightly and very securely. I used the tin as a sugar bowl for years....until I got married and the wife decided she wanted a real one. So I got alot of mileage out of the gift.

This year my wife and I are going to buy several sizes of picture frames and then design a presentation of an inspiring poem. We will print it up on quality paper and frame them as gifts for friends. We might even be able to match the frames with some of our friend's decor so as to further personalize it.

For my SW friends, I'm wanting to do a really good photoshop of them in a cool setting. I've been getting some wonderful screenshots from the game and I'm gonna use them for some fun Jedi pics.
