Well, it's about time I found time to do this profile. So here it is....My real name is Wendy Wright, I live in NY, NY. I'll soon be 52. I've been a professional Broadway theatre usher for 30 years. I've also been a professional working costumier for about that long. I've lived up & down the East coast, from NY to Fla & back. I first used the Nova Darklighter name for a RP/LARP character after the 1st film, about the time that D&D was popular, some friends and I created our own SW version and played it, at home or on the streets, sometimes with funny results. I've been a member of MSR (Medieval Scenarios & Recreations, similar to SCA) for about 20 years, have an Order of the Golden Bowl, and an Order of the Garb (this means I'm a really good at cooking weird food & I can really sew funny clothes) and some other stuff. Just to amuse you all, I worked at Rubies as a designer for a couple of years, and actually worked on the costumes for Ep I. I did all the JarJar costumes. The samples that were approved by Lucasfilm were a lot better than the production run, Mr Lucas was very unhappy (I heard) that is why the Ep II costumes were better in production, but I had left Rubies before then. I now work at Halloween Adventure, which is fun most of the year, except for Oct. I do that during the day & usher at night, NYC is an expensive place to live & I';m a workaholic anyway. I get a lot of custom work at the shop, for stuff that isn't commercially available, so I freelance after work at night by sewing, known as my 3rd job. I bowl on the Broadway Show Bowling League, which exists to raise money for B'way Cares/Equity Fights Aids, that's all the references to "Gotta Go Bowling!" We bowl at about 12 midnight on Thursday nights. I won this seasons trophy for most improved bowler, this means I had a couple of really lucky games, I'm a very erratic bowler, ranging between a low of 97 & a high of 203 this season, but avg. about 120. I have been a serious fan of Queen for a very long time, about as long as Star Wars, maybe a bit longer, with about the same intensity. I have a cat, named Tenement Funster (Queen song, she's a funster & the building I live in was at times past called a tenement) funny cat is a brat, and about 11 years old. Well, that's probably more than you really wanted to know, so I think I'll quit here.

Tanthos, no, never married, no kids either. I am a co-legal-gaurdian for someone, but he lives with the other half. I'm there as a backup in case my other half pre-deceases him. He is about 4 years younger than I. On a good day he's about 12, on a bad day maybe 6 or 7. As far as he's concerned, I'm mom.

Als-da, actually, that was the other Brian May, an Australian guy, he died a couple of yaers ago,he did the Mad Max stuff as well. Queen did Highlander & Flash Gordon, Brian from Queen, did do the score for a German film called Furia, not fun to watch, very heavy stuff and another film, a sci-thriller about 12 years ago, I think it was the Manhattan Project. He also did the score for a stage production of Macbeth in London, several years ago. As for Vanilla Ice, he should have asked permission, but since he didn't, Disney, who own Hollywood records, Queens label in the states, sued his behind and took all his money. Never mess with Disney lawyers, they're bad. I was very confused by the 2 Brian May(s) as well for a while, in Actors Equity there is only one person allowed to use a name at a time, so I thought that was true of ASCAP as well, but not so, there are lots of musicians with the same name, like the drummer in DuranDuran was also a Roger Taylor, who is the drummer in Queen, I thought he'd cloned himself for awhile, til I saw a picture.

Well today marks the end of an era in my life, after working at the St. James theatre for a bit more than 27 years, I worked my final show today. I handed in my resignation recently, I was tired of the way the general manager treated me, constant harassment about very petty things. Did you know, things that happened in a place could be your fault, even when you're 3000 miles away in another country, I got a letter about something that happened while I was on vacation in the UK, stupid stuff like that, who needs the aggravation? Not me. I can do the same job and make the same money in any other theatre on B'way, and be appreciated for doing my job, and doing it well. So I've spoken to some other managers at other theatre chains, had very positive feedback, and will find another theatre to work at soon. It's about to be very busy at my day job really soon, as now is the start of the Halloween season, and I will probably do a lot of overtime at the costume shop, and look for a theatre position in November. That boss also appreciates me for the job I do. I'll keep you all posted.

I am really sorry to hear that Nova....but in a way...it seems that it is time to move on. Wow....you are a busy lady...that is for sure! I have been tempted to look for part time work too....years ago I worked a full time job and two part time jobs...but have only worked one job for the last 8 years...I really don't want to go back to taking on part time jobs...but if things don't improve...I may have to. I want to leave my full time job after 24 years...but that will prove difficult... Keep us posted.... and try to keep your sanity as Halloween aproaches again.... fingers crossed that we hear from Lucasfilm on our T-shirt design....wanna file that one in "completed projects" ...getting them from design to reality.....

Well, as of October 15th, a bit before I wanted it, I found a new theatre to work at, or rether it found me. I'm now doing what I was doing at The St James, at the newly renovated and re-opened " MTC's Biltmore Theatre" MTC stands for Manhattan Theatre Club, a non profit theatre group that has been responsible for the pre-Broadway developement of several plays and a couple of musicals, even a couple of Pulitzer prize winners. They are a mostly subscriber crowd, so they are serious theatre goers, not to much the drunken "It's the latest hit" type, so they are generally easier to deal with, though a bit more demanding in some ways. It made the last 2 weeks of October really interesting, and even more hectic. But they are very pleasant to work for, and it's nice to be appreciated for doing a job right again. They treat the staff with respect and appreciate us for the job we do, after trying to depend on a skeleton crew of proffessionals, and unpaid volunteers, they hired more professionals because the difference was really obvious, as well as the fact that the volunteers would show up, or not at will, which could make for chaos. I'm not putting down volunteers, they are a great help, but if we have none, and some nights none were scheduled, we're now staffed to deal with it, and when they're there, it's very helpful. The volunteers range from students into theatre to some very elderly sorts and the whole gamut in between. They help on the aisles and get to see the show free. Right now we're between shows as our shows run for about 10 or 12 weeks at a time, then close and we get the next one about a month later, this one was called "The Violet Hour" by Richard Greenburg, who wrote "Take Me Out" which moved to B'Way last spring our next show is called"The Drowning Crow" it's a sort of Hip Hop version of Chekov's "The Seagull" if you can imagine that, but it is written Regina Taylor, the author of a really neat book called "Crowns" which is a photografic book of black women in their finest chuch hats, I think it's a great book, with some really wonderful portraits of those women in Crowns. So in the mean time I have time to go visit my Mom in SC, (she's very excited, I haven't been down in about 2 years)and maybe get some laundry done. So I'm flying to Augusta GA which is the easiest airport to get to near her, even though Columbia SC's is closer. I'm going on the 6th of Jan. for a week. So I will finally get to meet a new neice, and a great neice and see my Brother and a few other relatives. Anybody live in the area of Aiken SC, or Augusta GA? Let me know, maybe we can get together.

I finally made it to welcome you....lol.... even though you have been here longer than I......It is so cool to read about what you have been doing, although I don't know if I could live in New York. I was there once in 1970 and I was very overwhelmed. I was with my college roomate that lived there so she knew the ropes and I did feel safe..... I think working in the theater must be a fun job...
