Got a new website for everyone to check out: www.seeqpod.com/searchThis is a site that searches blogs and other online databases for music files. It's not downloading any sound files, so those of you who don't feel comfortable about music sharing have nothing to fear. It just streams it in a player built into the page, and you can build a playlist, change order of said playlist, and save it (if you register for free). Anyway, I typed in Star Wars Radio Drama and got almost every episode from the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi radio serials. They're great! It's a little corny at times (and can be hard to get my mind around other actors playing my favourite characters), but it's a nice change of pace from the movies and books.

Actually, I should clarify...the dramas are pretty darn good. I'm listening to ESB right now, and they cover some cool things that they skipped in the movie. For example, the portray the launch of Rogue Squadron's speeders as they begin their search for Han and Luke on Hoth, and they also have a nice scene with Han and Luke inside their shelter waiting for rescue. It helps that Mark Hamill and Tony Daniels play their signature roles, but the other actors do a great job too.

Those have been some of my favorite versions of the "canon" since they were released! I love the extra scenes, and I really think they did a great job. I've even gotten used to the voices of different actors in familiar roles. In ROTJ, Mark Hamill wasn't available, so there is another actor playing the part. The first couple of times it's distracting, but after a little time, you pay attention to the dialogue, not the voice. They were directed by the (then) future Oscar winning John Madden (Shakespear In Love). Good find, Cozmo!

Wasn't Ed Asner as Jabba ,and John Lithgow as Yoda? Ed Asner went to do a voice-over as a Grand Master Jedi in the KOTOR gaming series.Perry King was Han.Brock Peters was Darth Vader

Yeah, I think Brock Peters did Vader for all three dramas. He's not bad, but without that deep, rich baritone it's just not the same. That was really the only voice that I found distracting in either series I found today. But listening to them, I can see how Mark Hamill saw something special in a career in voice acting!

These are the ones that came out in the early 80s. Actually, the Empire Strikes Back drama came out in '83. But the ROTJ came out in 1996, and by that time Mark Hamill was trying to distance himself from Luke Skywalker and didn't want to do the program, so they had to get someone else.
If you play them on this Seeqpod website, you can use something like Audacity to record the streaming media, and then you can save them as MP3s.

They began in 1981, with ESB in 83 and ROTJ (finally!) in 96, just before the Special Editions came out.
Writer Brian Daley had done the Han Solo trilogy books prior to this, and Lucasfilm (Carol Titleman, specifically) liked the way he handled the characters, so he got the call for this series. Sadly, he died on the night the cast finished taping the last episode of ROTJ. Tony Daniels has said he really appreciated the way Daley wrote for 3PO
The three series show up on Ebay with some regularity, if you want the whole set for yourself.

I was just wondering how to get them MP3, since I'd like to listen while I'm in the car or trying to fall asleep at night....! I've got Audacity, so I'll give it a try.... It's not piracy if it's from 1983, the copyright is expired.... I would think, anyway....

It's not piracy if it's from 1983, the copyright is expired.... I would think, anyway.... Actually, the copyright would still be in force...it lasts for the lifetime of the author, plus 50 years. So even though the writer has died, the copyright would still be valid. Though I am sure that Lucasfilm has bought the copyright since then !! We got our copies a few years ago on eBay, and usually listen to them on long car trips. Helps while away the long hours ;D. We really like them, especially all of the extra stuff that helps develop the background stories!! I just checked too, and it looks like you can still buy copies on amazon.com...just in case anyone wants them. I would check eBay too, every once in a while there is someone selling them for a good price.

The only thing is that Luke in ROTJ is SUPER annoying and whiny. The actor makes him sound like this timid little fellow who got conned into pretending he's a Jedi Knight.
I really like Perry King as Han Solo, and Ann Sachs as Leia is okay (but just okay), but this imposter of Luke is horrible. I can't believe they're telling me this is the best guy they could find. Mark Hamill portrayed Luke with confidence and calm. This guy is like Threepio in human form.
But the dramas for the first two films are top notch!

I wasn't impressed at first with Joshua Farden, either, but he does grow on you. Just imagine taking over the most iconic role of the time, and being an unknown actor, to boot. Mark would have done better, but he also would have had the advantage of 25 years of experience with the character. He also would have felt confident asking for redirection or rewrites if he felt the character was being taken in a wrong direction. I don't think Joshua could have gotten away with that.
Just my two cents, but then I've heard these at least 50 times each. (Yeah, I'm a nerd. It passes the time in my basement violin shop.) I focus on the story, not necessarily the voices behind it.
