Hey everyone. Over in Lanika's thread we've been sharing convention stories and such. I thought to have them here in the cantina would fit perfectly. She has a few gems.
So pull up a chair to the table, grab your milk, caf' or a fizz and share YOUR stories. For laughs, encoruagement whatever. Post away folks.

Lianakian asked me to cut/paste a couple of her convention stories here so she'd not need to retype them.
Liankian's story below.
It's weird, I had been prepared to method-act my way thru voice and mannerisms to imitate the character, but, I had not quite been prepared for the extent of actual resemblance once the costume and makeup were on. Plus, once I went out in public in the costume, it was a bit freaky to suddenly not be immediately recognizable as a female, because although I can be androgynous at times, my femininity is something I've always sort of just taken for granted. But,...by far the king-biscuit freakiest part of it all so far, was at Comic-Con last month....I walked nonchalantly around the corner of the entrance to the Ladies' room, and two young adolescent girls suddenly gasped and shrieked, "Oh my God!!!" ... which startled the heck out of me, and then they just froze and stood there staring at me. Then one of them goes, "What are you DOING in HEEEERE??!!!You can't be in here! It's the GIRRRRLS restroom!!!" And the other girl elbows her, and continues to stand there gaping at me with a grin and chewing on her I.D. badge. That quite possibly was one of THE most bizarre occurrences in my life, but, also one of the funniest. Second to that was the moment I spoke to the girls in my female voice, they both gasped again and said, "NO WAY!!!!!!!" in unison. I just smiled and went, "Way."
SO.....the costume is definitely a trip.

Jauhzmynn,...there you are, girl! I found ya, and finally found your new thread! I had a little trouble finding the cantina at first. (it could not have possibly been more clearly marked and visible, yet I somehow scrolled past it without seeing it, about 100 times.) Well, anyway,....I'm eager to hear all of your convention stories. MTFBWY! Lianakin~

I've a couple, but will psot one at time.
This io one isn't Star Was related.<GASP> <SHOCK> :-D
In 200, I was in L.A. volunteering for a convention for a scifi series called "V" from way back in the mid 80's. A fledgling convention company put it on and invited 14 gueststars from the V movie. Even the director Kenny Johnson and composer John Williams showed up. (John dropped in unannounced to visit iwth Ken.)
I was in my first costume a Visitor red uniform assigned to patrol the autograph rooms and see if the guests needed anything. Ya know basic stuff.
One of the cast members, Peter Nelson was checking out the Uniform and comented that it looked better than his that he wore on the set. Later I find out this guy was looking for me and shows his friend the costume. I wonder if Peter Nelson was looking at the clothing or the chick in it . I don't know, but to hear some say what I had on ws better made than what he did. Not bad for a first crack at hand sewing a costume.

Last Halloween a man asked me if I was Obi-Wan Kenobi, and I said "No, I'm his sister!" I didn't think I looked like a man just because I was in Jedi garb...
At C-IV a teenager told my husband he was too tall to be Yoda, and I told him he should have more respect for the Grand Master... LOL

<snicker> Earth's food was good for him, it make the wee master grow like a weed. :-)
I'm been called Obi Wan, Princess Liea and Amidala while in Jedi garb.

The weekend of the Sci-Fi toy expo here in Dallas was being held. Well my wife and her friends meet at a hotel lobby every friday night to chat and knit.
Well one time I sat with them I don't knit but i have friends with most of them. Well while I am sitting there I notice two diminutive people come in with an entoruge. I didn't pay it any mind at first, untill I realize. That's Kenny "Frikkin" Baker!!!!
Of course I am flabbergasted, What Do I do? I can't just walked up to him, I might appear to be a drooling stalker. So I think about it and go the cool method, I remember that Mr.Baker IS an englishmen so i concoct a plan.
I take a deep breath and procced to thier table in the hotel lobby " I introduce myself and ask if he is indeed Kenny Baker. To which he responds yes. Very cooly I say "Mr Baker I would like to buy you a drink!" He is flattered and accepts seconds later I return with a glass of chardonay and thank him for his service to the star wars universe.
He is appricative and offers me an autograph and a picture. And I leave satisfied our meeting was a great one.
But no sooner did my wife and I leave did we find out that 10 minuets later, CARRIE FISHER arrive to the lobby to have a drink......
Ha frikkin HA.........

Well, here goes my current most memorable con story.
Celebration II was my first major con. Never been to D*C, just to several smaller regional cons such as TrekExpo in Tulsa, OK, or a small Sci-Fi con in Little Rock.
As Carrie Fisher was attending CII, I decided I absolutely must have her autograph. I was pretty lucky and got in line to ensure I would get an autograph, as many waited for her all day, missed other con events, and still didn't get to see her. I was in line for about 4 hours when I finally got inside to see her. At that time she had a TV talk show on the Oxygen channel called Conversations from the Edge. When I greeted her I thanked her for her time and indicated that my wife really enjoyed her show (just to make small-talk). She slid the sunglasses off her eyes a bit and looked over them at me and asked about why I don't watch it. I stuttered and said, well, it's on Oxygen, and...I'm a guy...(yes, I know, a bit sexist...sorry ladies). She simply smiled and said, and I quote, "You bastard!" very loudly so that many people in line could hear. All I could do was laugh with joy that my attempt at conversation had made such a fun impact on her.
Honestly, it was all in good fun and she had a good laugh with me, but I'll always remember meeting her that first time and her calling me a bastard.
I look forward to reading others' con experiences here, too! They're all very fun!

Ok...the foul language editor on the boards cleaned up my statement, making not near as funny...she actually called me a b*stard, not a jerk.

There are so many good memories from CIV, it's hard to know which to choose from.
One of my favorites by far was the TJA photo shoot. As much as everyone was goofing off and having fun, it was like getting a huge family together for a family photo. There was so much laughter and freindship. That alone made the entire trip to LA worth it.

At DC 2006 I was doing escort duty for the MOTF, (Star Wars track, if you haven't been) and one of the assignments was to escort Ray Parks, who cracked up, all 5 of his escort were Jedi and Female! Really a very nice guy.
