The former webmaster wrote in the RL command forum, in response to my post:
It would help to know what the error messages are. An "error screen" isn't much help. There are many possible errors. Here are a few questions to help solve the problem:
1) What is their zip code? 2) If they are attaching a picture instead of linking to one on another site, how big is the file? It must be 1MB or less. 3) Are there any apostrophe's in their user name, name, or character name?

No, it did not take 2 years. There have been multiple rejections, most recently due to the quality of the photographs of the costume. Note to anyone applying: the photo of your costume you use for membership application needs to be of good quality and a very boring shot. With and without robe, full body, hands at side, showing the entire costume in a well lit, decent resolution image. This is not the time for fancy poses with lightsaber or photos taken with a cell phone "camera". After multiple rejects for quality of photo, I took this shot of this local RL member and he got in right away: public.fotki.com/CrimsonJedi/starwars/jedi2.htmlThat sounds more reasonable... I used the same photo that I used here, i72.photobucket.com/albums/i184/granny-wan/full2.jpgand i72.photobucket.com/albums/i184/granny-wan/full1.jpgBoring photos, and I hated them... But they worked...

lol! I followed your link, and it immediately came up with the 'page cannot be displayed' error page! I just have to laugh! No worries - I'll just keep trying. My zip code is pretty generic, I suppose (98374). I tried uploading the photo from photobucket, and from my computer - both of which got the same response (page cannot be displayed). Yes, there is an apostrophe in my name, so I will try to delete it next try. Perseverence is the path to success. h-d

If you don't mean my link, then never mind! BTW, I love your tagline...

Ya know, every time I see this subject my first thought is "Real Life" instead of "Rebel Legion"

I've had trouble with the rebel legion before. It was over a applicant's jedi gear. A RL member was saying the guy's stuff wasn't 'cannon' and wasn't his ccostume(that he'd 'borrowed 'it).Full length, CLEAR pics of the clothing from, side, front and back were submitted 3 times. No 'welcome' email, no email saying"it was rejeted b/c of ..."
I know it was cannon, and his, b/c he'd contracted me to make the robes per hsi deisgns and specs. (We'd at length discussed them making SURE they fit with the RL's 'cannon' rulles, so it can be a formal set.. I'd made another member's jedi over tunics and hers were accepted. She had a rebel comando outfit and wanted jedi for another costume.
He has to resubmit the pics yet again. Maybe it'll go through without a hitch this time.

No 'welcome' email, no email saying"it was rejeted b/c of ..." That is exaclty what happened to me...and it really turned me off from the RL . I applied with my Jedi costume and was sent a letter saying I was rejected, but not why I was rejected! I didn't know what to do...I was brand new with costuming. My local friends from MN Force helped me out and thought perhaps they didn't like my belt since it was only a single belt. So I made it a double belt and resubmitted it...and again got the same rejection notice with no explaination of what was wrong!!! A friend at the MN Force contacted a friend at the RL and found out that it was indeed the belt...they wanted a 'less organic' belt...so I bought an Obi-wan belt and resubmitted it...and was finally approved!!! But why not just tell me what was wrong and what they wanted in the rejection letter!? The bottom line on this whole story is that the RL just needs to tell people why they are rejected so they know what to improve on their costume to get accepted!!!! Poor communication from the RL.... Here are pictures of the belts....whatever Non-approved belt: Approved belt:

Siri, I find nothing wrong with your first picture of the "non-approved" belt. In fact I'm on of those costuming weirdos who thinks that out of 10,000 people, they'll ALL going to be diffeant. (It's not a 'uniform' like the military.) varieity IS allowed, and in the fictonal jedi code it's allowed..
I think the Rebel legion sometimes has to reevaluate things and not take this costuming thing so seriously. I've wanted to bakc out and take my membership with me, but until TJA becomes big enough to stand alone in LFL's view, I'm unfortuantly will need the RL membership.

They pointed out the difference in boots, belts and even tunics of the different jedi. I so agree with you...a Jedi costume is not a military uniform, there should be some differneces acceptable...as long as it is a high quality costume and look!!!

I can't agree with you more, I havent given up, I'm just biding my time, Like a Sith. But in the meantime I would like to help TJA in any way I can get in more standing with LFL. Well within my realm of capabilities, and not step on any one's toes. That's all I need is to get expelled from TJA and then I will REALLY be in Poo Doo!

RL's communication is horrible... the website says to email in a week if you don't hear from them, and I did that... still no response... another 10 days went by and I emailed again, telling them I was going to C-IV and would like to participate, and still no response.... I was a little miffed and so I ignored them at the Con, but I did email afterwards and said I'd appreciate and answer, yes or no... three weeks later I got an email saying I'd been accepted...
What good does that do me now??? It might be years before I go to another Con... I can't go to every Con that happens.... {grumble}
So, you are not alone... I much prefer the message boards here at TJA, anyway....

Hmmm... this is very interesting. I had hoped to apply to RL in the near future, but I need to take some pictures with a plain background as they request.
I had thought my black boots and belt might be an issue but now I'm wondering about my buckle. I actually LIKE my buckle b/c it's different but still has sort of the equestrian look with the harness/bit loop and clip . Not being a "face" character I kind of wanted to do something a bit more personal but still with "the look".
I guess the only way to find out is take the pictures....
On the communication issue(s):
1.) Re: time frame on getting approvals -- As is the case with many (or rather most) volunteer groups, stuff often gets put on the back burner b/c the person in charge of "whatever" is dealing with time/work/life issues, or is disorganized, or both.
But I think most people do understand that as long as it doesn't get to be unreasonable.
2.) BUT, the "not communicating" is a P/R killer, especially for a group trying to gain membership. And knowing "why not" is very important, so one can correct whatever is the issue, as has already been observed.
I haven't had any dealings with RL except for individual members so I realize I'm talking a bit out of turn. But having been volunteered for years with my church, my alumnae group, etc. I've seen both scenarios and the second tends to have greater negative impact.
Steps off soapbox....
