Eragon/ Farm boy = Luke Skywalker/ Farm boy
Eragon gets the stone and is wanted for it = Luke gets the droids and is chased for them..

I saw a ton when I read the book.
Orphaned farm bou raised by a Unlce, meets a crazy old wizard who shows him the way to start his mythical journey.
The book reeks of Star Wars references. Haven't seen the movie yet, but we will sometime over Christmas break.

hmm... I didn't read it and I haven't seen it yet, but was the author a Star Wars fan? I don't know much about it, but it certainly sounds like he was!

Oh I know that... but to me its just a tad too much Star Warsy. Why an Uncle? Why not a grandparent or a cousin? And there are other things in the second book that of course lead to the 'Joseph Campbell mythical journey' but are too close to the happenings of Star Wars.

Like you said, it's Joseph Campbell's Hero with a new face. The poster was very "Harry Potter" to draw in the younger crowd I imagine.

That's because he grew up reading LOTR and all and most fantasies (actually all books have in a way) the hero's journey. Though honestly, the movie had some definite changes and omissions from the book. read the book if you haven't it's a good fantasy. JMD

Saw the movie yesterday. Its been long enough since I read the book that the movie was pretty good. If I had read the book last week I probably would have been criticizing it more but a lot of details I had forgotten. Karm absolutely loved it, and since its a "kid's movie" that's what's important

the author wrote it when he was 16 I believe. He was also home schooled and lives in the middle of nowhere from the interview I saw several months ago.

Yeah I thought that was awsome that he wrote that. I mean to have such a young author get a book published at that age is quit an acomplishment.

How 'bout the part where Durza the shade kills the 'ogre' chief for falure, then immediately promotes the next-in-command to chief?
;D
And when all the Varden(sp?) rebels were preparing for the 'ogres' (forget the name of those) to bust down the door to their caves, reminded me of the opening scene in EPIV on the blockade runner before the imps bust through the airlock.
