I recently had the chance to watch some of the latest SW fan films and I'm impressed. Some folks have WAAAYYY too much time on their hands, LOL! Seriously, the makers of these short films truly love Star Wars and it shows in their work. I have now watched "Revelations", "Sins of the Jedi parts 1 & 2", the Sith-centric "Duality" and "I.M.P.S.-The Relentless Chapter 1". Of these my favorite has to be I.M.P.S. which stands for "Imperial Military Personnel Stories". Yeah I know we're Jedi but this film, done in a propaganda/Discovery Channel way, has digital effects and a soundtrack that are big-name Hollywood studio quality. You can watch it at www.impstherelentless.comSo what's your favorite SW Fanfilm?

There are too many good fan films - a couple of stinkers but lemme see:
Art of the Saber - the Ho brothers rock and I like the Wuxia feel to it
Duality - Seeing how Sith make the "cut" as it were... The movie inspired "Two-ness" a spoof fan film of a fan film...
The Pink Five Series - It's perfect. Period. Amy Earhart does a great job and the two films out are hilarious. Return of Pink Five (still in production) should be amazing...
Troops/I.M.P.S. - A great view of Stormtroopers from the inside. We see the "truth" of A New Hope in Troops and Stormtoopers berating Predators in IMPS. Love them...
The Formula - an inside look at the making of a SW Fan Film. Very good..
Essence of the Force - a very good movie with a funny twist. Can't spoil it...
There's more I like... not enough space to write them all...

I think Ryan vs. Dorkman has one of the most amazing lightsaber fights I've ever seen - in some ways, better than the ones in the films!
And if you want to watch sumthin similar to Essence of the Force, but with a better saber fight, watch Legacy of the Jedi. A Question of Faith is good as well, though they should have shown the fight at the end! And the sound was blatantly done in an echoey room...
Is there any way of downloading IMPS in Quicktime or .mpeg format? cos my comp don't have the DivX thing they use.

There's a link to "The DivX thing" on the IMPS site. You only need to download the codec, and its perfectly safe if you're worried about security/spyware etc.

I tend to be a very harsh critic when it comes to SW fan films. When a fan films is trying to emulate a chapter in the SW saga, it usually falls very short for me. The acting and special effects are the worst to suffer. It makes me cringe, and I end up not being able to watch more than a minute of it. That being said, when a SW fan film is a parody or spoof, the acting and SFX can be second (or third, or fourth) rate, and still be very entertaining. This is why TROOPS has to be my favourite fan flick. The filmmakers perfectly blended the SW universe with the documentary "real tv" feeling of COPS. And it is really funny! The last line said by a sandtrooper which goes, "The important thing now is that we find their nephew, uhh... Duke, and make sure he's ok" had me in stitches! TROOPS' SFX were not too shabby either. I'm downloading IMPS now to check it out.

Definitely Christmas TaunTaunsIt's a cute little musical animated short. The animation you could definitely see is amateur, but the presentation was superb. It's a different sort of fan film. It was such a great tribute, I think. It's a movie about the kid in all of us! ;D Here's a link: www.atomfilms.com/af/content/tauntauns

The girl from "Christmas Tauntauns" looks like she was modeled after Xana. She looks a lot like a young Xana, and have you ever seen her collection!?

I had a chance this morning to check out some of the fan films Lazlo mentioned: "Pink 5": couldn't sit through it. Too campy. A little too much "valley girl" for me. Although when she was talking about her "boyfriend" taking her to the asteroid that was really a space-slug- I cracked up. "Art of the Saber": Excellent! My new #1 for a saber battle. Beats "Ryan vs Dorkman" for me! The forest backdrop is so much more pleasant than the industrial warehouse. Primrodo's "Eclipse" is a strong second. "Essence of the Force": Very well done. Cute ending. "Duality": I think this just became my favourite fan film! The effects are movie (if not video game) quality! The only thing I could fault is that the lightsaber strikes look a little telegraphed. The two Sith battling do not truly look like they are trying to kill each other; rather they look as if they are making sure their lightsabers strike each other precisely so no one gets hurt. I realize this is no easy task. Great ending! Never saw that coming! Make sure you watch the credits to the end. "I.M.P.S.": a fantastic follow-up to "TROOPS". Love that documentary feeling. And it is little things like the AT-AT's reverse warning lights that make this special to me. Well done indeed!

"Art of the Saber" without a doubt, it blew me away.
I'd love to see the Ho brothers do a feature length film.

Christmas TaunTaun wins it for animation. One Season More is the greatest musical fan film ever. But my all time fave has to be Jar Jars Death. I thought all of this years finalists (with the exception of the animated winner) were unbelievable.

My favorite so far (that I keep checking the progress on) is Sins of the Jedi. That kicks ass

My favorite is The Skywalkers. But then I may be a little biased because I helped a little in making it. Saw Duality a couple of years ago at Filmcon. The guy who made it was a guest there & did a panel on how it was made.

Don't think I've seen that one.
I liked the "Pink Five" series and can't wait for "Return of Pink Five." They are just fun films.
"Art of the Sabre" is the best lightsaber duel.
"Star Wars Gangsta Rap" is the best musical (but watch out for Part Two... has some bad words and sexual references that really ruins it. One of the reasons I like "Gangsta Rap" was because it didn't cheapen itself with bad language)
"IMPS" was good, but DivX messed up my computer (I have an old one). Can't wait for the others
