Whew, Ki Vaan...spending time in the Gym, eh? Heh... Thanks. I just started going back to the gym in May. I've actually been working out since 1990 and have competed in two bodybuilding competitions waaaaay back then. If you look at the first page of my website- there are a couple of pics of me back then when I competed. I was really overweight my entire teenage years- I was the fat kid in highschool who got picked on a lot. Before my graduation, a friend of mine got me interested in bodybuilding. So I started working out, competed in 1991 and 1992, continued training for 11 more years, then quit completely in 2003. My job had put me on the nightshift and I didn't have the desire to train anymore. After 3 years, I had lost everything- When I really started to put on weight again, I basically took a long hard look at myself this year and decided enough was enough- it was time to go back! ;D Heh- didn't mean to write a novel here. And thanks for the compliment on my Wolverine. ;D

Whoa...so much to comment on...let's start from the beginning, eh, a very good place to start, as Julie Andrews would say....
New costume @ D*Con, well, duh, yeah! I'll be debuting my first ever full-on Jedi Knight costume! This group has really inspired me in soooo many ways, I was putting a Halloween deadline on myself for the Jedi robes, but w/out the 'saber, I don't know if it'll really have that WOW!!! effect I'm looking for, and, truly, I want to do it right, yes? But a D*Con '07 deadline isn't too unrealistic, so, yes, I'll be having a new costume. I just recently found my Star Trek Voyager-DS9 turtleneck, so I'll probably be up to D*Con standards for my Trek uniform by then, too :-D
"Good morning, Obi!" "Good morning, Angels...."
Totally kewl! And Ki-Vaan, kickin' graphix, man! Master Jorlac as Bosley...hmmm...might work! :-D
Finally, Ki-Vaan, those claws ROCK, dude! The effect IS totally seamless! Well done, my friend! I did, in fact, visit your website, and I'm glad you're as inspired to start working out - again - as you are. I've recently started going to my local gym, too. As hospital employees, we receive a REALLY good discounted monthly rate for membership, so a couple of female friends of mine and I decided there really wasn't anything keeping us from excercising. So we did...for a while. Then they started sloughing off, one of them left - though we're still really good friends and still hang out and whatnot - and finally, there was no one working out. But I remember how good I felt when I looked in the mirror after just a couple of weeks of it, and I really liked what I saw; it made me feel good on soooo many levels, it was just disappointing for me NOT to go back...so I did. Currently, I'm working out and loving it, and while I'm not weight training, I am toning up what I do have, and I'm excited. Keep up the good work.
Way to go, Sarge...is it Staff Sarge....
May the Force be with you!

If we go next year I really have NO idea what other costumes I'd do, aside from more Anakin Ki Vaan, cool look on Wolverine, would be a great costume for you! The only real issue I have is the claws, the pattern you got is actually wrong, and when you hold them they curve really weird, they should look more like: www.aristoi.org/albums/wolverine/promo02.jpgAs for worry about the claws, there was a Wolverine from Quebec who had his, and his were Aluminum...he got his from an eBay seller from Mount Forest Ontario...

Thanks for the compliment and especially for that picture Justin! I've actually had some trouble finding a larger pic of Logan not in his black leather X-Men uniform. ;D I still need to get the correct Chief Sitting Bull belt buckle -ones on ebay are just brass and not in colour. Leads me to believe it may have been painted. Yeah the claws are really just a test to see if it would work- I plan on making a second set. These are just made of cardboard and styrofoam, so they will probably get destroyed eventually. About the Wolverine from Montreal- I'm pretty sure I met him via one of my Marine buddies. I think he got lucky with the aluminum claws at D-Con (and going back and forth over the border). D-Con security can be lackadaisical or very tight depending on the costumers attending: One year they banned all airsoft guns after someone decided to snipe the Stormtroopers from a balcony. Really stupid on that guy's part! Another year they had a person dressed as the monster from "The Village" removed because the bamboo sticks coming out his back were sharpened. And the same year (I think), a good friend who does Wolverine (with the full black suit) was told to put his claws back in his room because they were aluminum. He wears resin ones now. I'd love to have the aluminum set- but I'd be very disappointed if I couldn't wear them. I've considered buying a resin set- but they can be pretty expensive as well. I'll probably make a new set with wood. Hopefully I can find the correct pattern rather than just making my best guess from pictures.

Ki-Vaan, I actually have the correct patterns and how they are meant to be worn, I think it would help you greatly. The Aluminum ones are like 90 bucks though, so if anything you could get those and copy them for the wood ones. Or in the very least use images I have as reference. PM me if you like Though I HAVE seen teh painted buckle pop up on the RPF alot, so keep your eyes Peeled Thankfully the Stargate costume has never presented a problem for me, so its been good, airsoft and otherwise Qui-Kel...The best fabric I have found for an Episode II Anakin is Raw Silk for the outer and a light weight weave for the inner. I sourced a fabric that was close years ago...most also use Raw Silk. If you need any help on any of the parts give me a PM

Mmm, Bill and I are going to go, hook or crook, besides I have a story in a dark romance issue premiering by the publisher at D'Con '07, which they'll be selling there. Going to try and submit for guest status and if accepted not sure what kind of time I'll have. But I plan to bring my costumes. Only new costue I got in plans for now is a Stargate one and Bill a pirate one. That's still far enough not to worry for now. JMD

Well, it looks like I won't be making it to DragonCon next year. A very good friend of mine is getting married on that Sunday, so DC is a "no-go" for me in 2007.

Sorry to hear that news Whinter- maybe '08 then eh? picky picky picky primrodo Now, now... Primrodo was just being constructive. ;D I've already made another step toward my Wolvie being screen accurate- I just won an ebay auction for the Indian Chief belt buckle: Near as I can tell- it's not 100% of the screen accurate colours- but it's as close as I'm going to find methinks. All that's left really is getting an accurate set of claws, cowboy boots, and an accurate jacket. With some help from a friend on The League of Heroes board, I've located a screen accurate set of resin claws. Cowboy boots are no problem (Jeez- I used to own a couple of pairs ten years ago. They were totally worn out so I tossed them. Now I wish I kept them ). As for the jacket- there is an ebay store in the UK that sells a 100% Logan reproduction. However it is well over $300 with the money conversion. A little too expensive for what will be a Halloween/convention costume. For now my brown Indiana Jones style jacket will have to suffice. On the advice of that same friend I might buy a cheap brown jacket that has the same style collar and zippers and simply paint the yellow stripes on with leather spray dye.

Nice find on the buckle!!
As for the jacket, you can always modify an existing brown motorcycle jacket, like your friend said...should be easy enough to pull off!
Which claws did you find? There is a seller who sells "screen-accurate" but looks alot like the ones you made, which just do not sit right, be interested in the ones you found though!
