Now, the 4-line, Stackpole Jedi Code works pretty well. But the first one with the roth undoing the wicked just doesn't work. Jedi don't do anything with roth, er, wrath. That way lies the Dark Side. The whole thing plays like an oath that mideval knights would shout out at a pep rally. It really does play like it came from some other movie. Jedi just don't do that. They're quiet and Buddist-like, a little monkish, but can still hack the arms off evil and blow things up. They just don't swear to valour about it.

The problem lies with the use of the word "wrath" (or "roth"). Wrath refers to anger, or fury. This is very un-Jedi like. "Anger leads to hate... Hate leads to suffering..." Path to the Dark Side etc. EDIT*** Beat me to it again Ani-Chay!

Some sound like the Samurai code...another is a known written code for chivalry. The Jedi Code is the four line one... Though, at one time I had written my own version. The Code One must love, without passion. One must come, without attraction. One must serve, without command. One must hold, but not in hand. As copied from the poetry page I'd submitted it to, years ago. www.shadowpoets.com/poetry/sanders.htm

Qual Totem is right, we need our own, I would propose taking the existing one and modifying it to say what we believe in as Jedi. With our own values. We should modify the four line version, I would say to replace "emotion" with "conflict" and "passion" with "animosity." What do you think?

Just for the sake of seeing it written down:
There is no conflict; there is peace. There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no animosity; there is serenity. There is no death; there is the Force.
Okay, I admit, it could still use some work...let's keep the ideas flowing...

The above version isn't bad, but I'd try:
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no conflict; there is peace. There is no discord; there is serenity. There is no death; there is the Force.

I always thought it wasThere is no Emotion; There is Peace There is no Ignorance; There is Knowledge There is no Passion; There is Serenity There is no Death; There is the Force But remember:(I) The only sovereign you can allow to rule you is reason. (II) Passion rules reason.

This Code is good and there is two kinds of roth or wrath one is with hatred of people and the other is the Dislike for the evil that they do because most of the sith are under the control an evil master so the person may not be bad persay but they are being used by the darkside for the darksides gain. The darkside does'nt care if they live or die but the light side deos that is way we try to bring them over to the light side of the force.

i like the "there is no emotion there is peace" line because it describes me quite well if u are at peace then basically ur happy and if ur at peace and happy then there is no evil about. at least thats the way it is in my experience. so if we are to only alter another one leave that line in it

i like the "there is no emotion there is peace" line ... That's actually the line that I have the most trouble with. "There is no emotion..." sounds a bit too much like suppressing emotions, which overall is a bad thing. Control, of course, would be essential for a Jedi using the Force, but suppression just leads to having them pop up later in unpleasant and unpredictable ways. Unfortunately, "There is no emotion, there is control," sounds even more heavy-handed. I'd try "There is no fury, there is peace." Or, "There is no wrath, there is peace.". I saw that 4-line Code in "I, Jedi", but I don't know if that's the first place where it's been used in the EU.

The four line code has been around for at least twenty years, so I would wager that it isn't Stackpole's.
It was in the first edition of the West End Games "Star Wars Roleplaying Game".
