Maul is just plain evil, no thought no feeling... just evil BUT he had no thoughts of his own, only what his Master tells him. At least at that point in his life. Eventually he would have tried to overtake Sidious, but I don't think it would have worked.
Vader is much more cunning and calculating.

To tell you the truth I think Darth Maul was the stronger of the 2. I mean Maul took on 2 jedi by himself and actually killed 1 of them. Vader took on someone who was barely a jedi and lost.

Darth Vader killed Darth Sidious because he was overconfident that Vader would never turn and he was distracted in the act of killing Luke with the force lightning. Vader fulfilled his prophecy in being the chosen one and bringing balance to the force. The Jedi however could not see that the prophecy would lead them down a dark and destructive path before it being fulfilled.
Although Vader is many fans favorite especially being redeemed at the end of his life and brought back to the light side of the force...........I am wondering how many feelings about him will change by the end of this next film. Watching him betray and destroy Jedi will show just how low and despicable he really is.

Vader is Vader before he puts on the armor. That will be seen in ROTS. Vader before the armor would have made mince meat out of Maul. Classic Vader versus Maul, Maul would win.
My Favorite Sith: Best Lines: Darth Sidious Best Presence: Darth Vader Best Raw Malice: Darth Maul Best Storyline Mover: Darth Tyrannus
My overall, Darth Vader. The armor, the heedless killing (including his own), the voice. You just don't get cooler than the original Dark Lord of the Sith!

To tell you the truth (and I am sorry to anyone who will get mad because I said this) I never liked Darth Vader I liked Anikan but I've always disliked Darth Vader so my view won't change much. But Darth Vader before the armor is something I really want to see.

Definatly Darth Maul. He is one of my favorite over all characters from the movies. I guess I have a soft spot for the Acrobat type though

It is so much more powerful to appreciate someone who does the stuff that you work so hard to be able to do. I may have never done martial arts (other than my year of Capoiera) but I have done acrobatics since age 6. Seeing a character in the movies that can do all that stuff forms an instant connection for me. Just like I love Luminera because she is known for her flexability.

I just like Maul because he didn't show any emotion just went out there and battled probably knowing that he wouldn't come back (yes I was talking like if it really happened ).

Watching him betray and destroy Jedi will show just how low and despicable he really is. That's so true... from what I've heard (I won't drop spoilers here) he does some very nasty things... enough to require a PG13 rating. I never cared much for Vader in the OT (don't hit me)... I was much more into the Jedi thing, even then. He was nasty, true, but he seemed only mildly nasty. After RotS, mind you, he may just fufill those bad guy boots after all! Be interesting to see him actually be the young and powerful Vader that the galaxy first feared!

I always though of Vader in the OT as sort of on the edge of being a really bad guy. He tells Obi Wan that he should not have come back showing some reluctance at having to do away with his former friend and master. He also spares Luke and reveals himself as Lukes father showing a hint at paternal feeling. Then in ROTJ he displays actual feelings saying "it is too late for me, son" When he turns on the Emporer we see him become the hero that everyone thought he might be.
In the next film however, without revealing spoilers we will see him at his most evil and be downright despicable. It will be difficult to watch and might erase any good feelings about him even knowing he redeems himself at the very end. With him being young and the most powerful being that everyone grew to fear and hate we will see him walk down a path that he could have avoided if he just made better choices. Sort of like watching someone young and promising take that walk down the drug path of self destruction. You know better choices are available and you can't understand why they don't make them.

The reason he spared Luke and told him that he was his father was because he was trying to turn him to the dark side like he was told to do.
